New Arsenal Women Arsecast. I spoke to Brian from @ArsenalWomenSC and Eve, Lauren and Dalia from @AWFChomeaway to discuss
🔴 Away ends in the WSL
🔴 Burgeoning social scene / community at AWFC games
🔴 Creating women’s football fan culture not just aimed at kids and families
Seems like a healthy balance between not entirely losing some of the player-fan engagement that makes women's football unique while being respectful of player time (and hopefully allaying some of the scrums we sometimes see at the end of the game for the perimeter!)
An unapologetically long and emotional piece on one of the best weekends with my life, which I was lucky enough to share with some amazing people. Link below.
tbh we’ve stopped using this account but for the happy reason that it’s just no longer needed - we started it to try and spread new chants, share pubs for fans to get together and stickers for away days, at a time when going to games felt a lot quieter and more insular than now
Also shout out to David (so sorry if we’ve misremembered your name after too many beers) who came up to us on Monday to say we’re the reason he started going to awfc games cos we made it look fun 😭 made us all tear up a bit tbh !
there’s others putting in herculean work to keep pushing things further, but from where we’re standing, within our scope, everything we hoped for has happened and more. It’s not just attendance, it’s an energy shift - the culture is here now and it’s not going anywhere! VAMOS!
seeing the streets of lisbon rammed with noisy arsenal fans, our block sending a mexican wave packing, 10k turning up for the trophy lift, it’s complete dreamland. winning the uwcl is insane full stop but I’m SO glad it’s happened again now we have the fans to match the occasion
just seen this photo of the prematch banner yesterday from shani.35mm on ig (really cool acc btw), still class to have a banner specific to the history of the women’s team and not always a general club one
would love to see such a big allocation sell out but let’s be real it’s a 7pm kick off on a work day - anyone with a 9-5 who doesn’t live in london is struggling to make that kick off
That we haven't sold out our away section to the biggest game of the season & as local as it gets is a touch disappointing at the moment, despite it being a big lot
Come on Gooners, this is bigger than the Conti final, let's smash it & give our team everything this Friday ✊🏼❤️⚪
As far as I can make out, in the absence of any hard evidence of anti-semitic sentiment whatsoever, this is a story in a national paper about a handful of people trying to get a lawful protest against the slaughter in Gaza banned because they don’t like it https://t.co/4uy5Fhj3bx
