I can buy the ‘different interpretation of the rules’ excuse from Red Bull with car design/philosophy, but not with the cost cap. It’s such a smack in the face to all the other teams who abided by it while RB benefited #FIA #CostcappenScandal

Whether it was £1 or £10 million over the budget bears no merit. The FIA need a harsh punishment for breaching the cost cap. If RB get off lightly here, it doesn’t deter other teams from doing the same in the future. Just makes the point of the cost cap redundant.

If a driver is out of contract for that year, then teams can only dip into their official reserves or its junior programmes

A way to deal with teams who go over the cost cap is to look at the outcome of breaching FFP in football:
1) Start the next season with a weighty points deduction
or
2) Be suspended from making any upgrades for a year and not be able to enter the driver market
