The number and percentage of older LGB+ people in England has increased significantly over the last ten years, and numbers of older LGBTQ+ people are set to increase further.

Many older LGBTQ+ people have played a vital role in social justice movements, yet they often remain overlooked in policy and practice as they age.

This spotlight examines the inequalities they can face in later life — across housing, work, finances, health, care and community connections — indicates how these experiences are shaped by decades of discrimination, and sets out recommendations for policy and practice.
