The prophets were not “Jewish.” That word, used the way we use it now, is an anachronism. It erases a split the New Testament and the year 70 actually forced.

Hebrew, From Eber, Abraham is called a Hebrew. The prophets belong to that people and that tongue. They preach YHWH, the written Law, land, king, and judgment. They do not belong to a religion named Judaism. That name is not in Isaiah, Jeremiah, or Ezekiel.

Judah / Judea / Yehudi / Ioudaios. First a tribe and a territory. After the kingdom splits, Judah is the south. After the exile, a Judean is a person of that land and its return. In the Gospels the word marks that people, and often the Jerusalem leadership. It is not the modern bundle: race + Talmud + a state.

Ioudaismos. “Judaism” as a Greek word appears in the Hellenistic age (2 Maccabees): a way of life against Hellenism. Second Temple label. Not Sinai.
So when someone says Amos was a Jew in the rabbinic sense, they are reading a later system back onto men who never sat in it.
What comes back from Babylon is what grows in the Second Temple centuries is a second authority: the tradition of the elders. That is the Pharisaic system, oral rulings beside the written Law. Jesus’ fight is with that system, not with Moses. Mark 7 / Matthew 15: they ask why His disciples break the elders’ tradition. He asks why they break the commandment of God for that tradition. That is the charge.

Jeremiah 31 promises a new covenant to the house of Israel and the house of Judah; Law on the heart. The New Testament says that covenant is cut in Christ’s blood (Luke 22; Hebrews 8–10). Hebrews 8:13: the first covenant is becoming obsolete.

In 70 AD the Second Temple is destroyed. The sacrificial order of that administration ends. The Sadducees vanish with the building. What survives in the Jewish world is the Pharisaic-rabbinic line: academy, Mishnah, Talmud. That line is what history thereafter calls Judaism.

On the other side of the same events the apostles keep the same Scriptures, confess the Messiah, and become what the world calls Christianity. The Hebrew prophetic religion does not continue as rabbinic Judaism. It is claimed as fulfilled in the Son. Rabbinic Judaism continues as the religion of those who rejected that claim and rebuilt authority in the sages.

Two religions after a split. One is defined by reception of the Messiah and the end of the temple order. The other is defined by rejection of that Messiah and by the elevation of the oral chain.

The second system is elite by structure: the oral law belongs to those who hold the chain. The New Testament’s opposite claim is that the promise runs through the Seed, not through the academy that said no.
Modern speech that calls the prophets “Jews” in the later sense hides the split.

Dispensational charts that treat a modern state and that later religion as the Israel of the promises, without the Son; hide it again.

The prophets were Hebrews of Israel and Judah. Jesus is David’s son, of Judah, in conflict with the elders’ tradition.

The new covenant and the fall of the temple close one order.
With Christianity the Book as fulfilled.

Judaism, as the word is now used, is the Pharisaic-rabbinic system after the rejection.

They are oppositional to each other, from beginning, through behavior, to end times. One accepts and tolerates (way too much), the other attacks, deceives, and manipulates.
