Friendship is dead because we killed it with money.
Today, friendship is measured by access, aesthetics, and bank balance. If you’re broke, you’re “not in the circle.” If you level up, you’re expected to dump your old friends and upgrade humans like phones.
To me, that’s not growth. That’s cowardice.
Friendship should never be about money. Instead, it should be about value where conversations, loyalty, shared experiences and mutual respect thrive.
That value that exists is the ship.
Once money becomes the foundation, it’s no longer friendship, the essence and efficacy of friendship erodes. Don't get me wrong, friends having money and levelling up is the very good. In fact, it very quintessential. The problem is when this privilege is not abound, and “friends” begin to place importance on money!
Yes, money causes issues in friendships. But money issues should never asphyxiate friendship. You don’t burn bridges because someone has flaws; you manage the excesses.
You should stop pretending that distancing yourself from “broke friends” is self-care. Most times, it’s just vanity dressed as wisdom.
If money is the only thing holding your circle together, you don’t have friends you have expenses…
