🏞️ Heritage, not profit.Gilray land carries deep community value, yet the City wants to sell it off to private developers.
We stand with the Save Gilray Committee:
Protect heritage
Prioritise youth development
Build for community, not speculation

🏘️ Phoenix Speaks Out
Last night Brett Herron joined Cllr Suzette Little & Cllr Jonathan Cupido in Phoenix.
The DA’s planning rules force 8–12 flats onto single plots in Cape Flats communities, while wealthy suburbs stay protected.
The result? Overcrowding, parking chaos, blocked driveways, and broken infrastructure.
Where you live matters. Different rules for different communities isn’t justice, it’s Apartheid 2.0.

The WC Land Use Amendment slashes consultation periods & weakens planning safeguards.
Land-use decisions shape daily life, where we live, how far we travel, whether communities are integrated or divided.
Stripping participation = exclusion.
Diluting frameworks = injustice.
GOOD cannot support these amendments.

⚽🏚️ Right to Play Denied
At the abandoned Italy sports facility, children have nowhere safe to play. Once a vibrant hub.
On this #InternationalDayoftheRighttoPlay, GOOD stands with residents demanding dignity, recreation, and safe spaces for our youth.
Cape Town deserves better. Our children deserve better.

Families are hungry. Housing backlogs grow. Infrastructure crumbles. Yet the DA’s priority was more seats for politicians, not more homes for people.
R21 million a year could build 53 houses. Instead, the DA wanted 6 more politicians. Wrong priority. Wrong time.

The Western Cape will never meet the demand for public housing on the MEC’s argument that the scale of development is limited to the funding envelope provided by the national Government.

There is no rule, no law, no parliamentary provision that requires a Member of this House to route oversight visits through the very office we are tasked with holding accountable. None.
The purpose of oversight is not to inconvenience departments. It is to see public institutions as they actually are - not as they have been prepared to appear.

With ECIC leadership. We discussed the entity’s strategic value as it has the convening platform for export finance. We also discussed work streams created to address constraints & growth opportunities; regulatory constraints, innovative solutions, & critical industries.
How do we have both a dropout crisis and a placement crisis at the same time? Every month a child spends out of school increases the likelihood they will never return. And the Western Cape Education Department still cannot tell us how much capacity exists across the system, making effective planning nearly impossible.

GOOD’s Brett Herron at Seawinds Sports Facility
On International Day of Play, GOOD SG and CT Mayoral Candidate engaged with residents during a site inspection. The only formal sports grounds, Seawinds Sports Facility, lies in total disrepair. The absence of decent recreation, sports, and play spaces leaves children vulnerable to gang recruitment.
GOOD is fighting for safe, dignified facilities where communities can thrive.
