Writing Medic on hiatus | Audacious | ‘Pain is duty.’ | I follow my passions | Quiet grief | Alone in a sea of people | Strict babe | Aspiring Vessel Lordette
Ya Allahu ya Rahman, we ask You for Your endless blessings, Ya Allah we love You and we strive to do right by You, the best way we can. We put our trust in You completely. Ya Allah save us from public embarrassment, the trials of living in these difficult times.
While, back in med school.
There's a Prof O in Paediatrics.
His wardrounds are on Thursdays.
Every HCW in the ward joins his round till whenever he finishes.
It could be from 10am to 2pm.
He percuss everybody according to their job specifications and does it respectfully, all to ensure effective care for the patients.
Thank you Inteleos!
Making ultrasound services available for maternal health care will be my focus in this project.
Looking forward to connect and making this happen
There's an ayah in the Qur'aan (Surah Anfal) that translates to"he will give you something better than what was taken from you" and I don't think there's anything more reassuring and calming than the words of Allah
If you like be from UI, OAU or UniLag.
Someone from one private university that just got accredited in 2016 will graduate do residency and be a better surgeon or physician than you UI ass.
And guess what they will most likely be richer than your broke ass too.
The three surgeons talking after trauma meeting this morning about how their partners doesn’t understand their work schedule and are beefing them , all 3 at same time 🥲 I just looked at them and sighed
I wish I could answer all the questions under this thread, but it is impossible for me right now but walk with me.
Resident: Good day Ma, we're starting Rounds.
Nursing officer: We are busy, go ahead with rounds.
Resident: Makes a note and updates the treatment sheet.
Intern nurse to Nursing officer: Ma, i want to go and give potassium to that patient. The doctor wrote that we should give 20mmol in 100mls of fluid to run over 6 hours.
Resident:(Who by chance was still around the ward heard what was said) No, sister, this child should not have 20mmol in 100 mls. It is 2mmol in 100mls, the child is 4kg.
Nursing officer to Resident:( Trying to defend her intern) Doctor that's what you wrote. You said 20mmol in 100mls
Resident: Mistakes can happen but it is impossible to write that. Let's just confirm.
Apparently, the doctor wrote 2mmol/100mls of fluids but the intern nurse mixed it up.
Imagine if the doctor hadn't heard
The intern would have given that, unsupervised, patient would have had a cardiac arrest.
Something or someone else would be blamed for it because no one was there to see it.
There will be less cases of "medical negligence" if everyone is on the same page.
If you had joined the rounds, you would have known that it was impossible for a doctor to write that.
Let us brainstorm on patient care.
Let us agree on way forward.
Ask your questions.
Don't just accept whatever is written
Mistakes are less likely if we are all working together.
Let us stop the pride and ego and hatred.
If a doctor is trying to put you down, take a stand and call them out.
Let's know if there were any issues.
The notes are just there to confirm what was already said.
Internal medicine is sweet sha. There’s a point to which you’ll read Harrison’s eh, you just close it first and shout Kia 😂😂
But na yeye specialty sha. You can’t find me there.
Nurses ought to join Doctors wardrounds.
If you've not been doing that, you need to start.
Even if it is a house officer, join that rounds, unless he/she's just doing a check check in with the patients.
If he/she is doing procedures, you should assist.
I'm officially passing the mic to the speciality that sometimes only arrive at the diagnosis after patient has done 87 investigations, changed medications like 4 times and 5 different consultants have come for ward rounds rulling out 16 differential diagnosis.
