Christus Vincit chanted at the beginning of the solemn Eucharistic procession with 5,000 Catholics in Portland, Oregon.
One of the Church's most fitting acclamations in honor of Christ the King.
English translation:
Christ conquers! Christ reigns! Christ commands!
To Leo, Supreme Pontiff and universal Father: peace, life, and eternal salvation.
To Alexander, most Reverend Archbishop, and to all his clergy: peace, life, and eternal salvation.
May good times come. May the peace of Christ come. May the Kingdom of Christ come.
Archbishop Sample: "This Land Does Not Belong to Satan. It Belongs to Christ."
Before leading more than 5,000 Catholics in a Corpus Christi procession, Archbishop Alexander Sample preached on Christ's kingship and the Church's mission to bring Him to the world.
Recalling a solemn rite he conducted a few days earlier, he proclaimed: "This land does not belong to Satan. It belongs to Christ." As Catholics accompanied the Lord Jesus in the Holy Eucharist through the streets, the archbishop reminded the faithful that they are called to bring Christ to their communities.
I will be spending six weeks in intentional prayer as part of my summer assignment. I’d be honored to pray for your intentions. https://t.co/WDtV8aygL7?
This Monday, I had the great honor of being received in audience by the Holy Father, Leo XIV.
I was able to share with him how the Lord is blessing the Archdiocese of Portland through our mission renewal, and the fruits we have seen in recent years. I spoke about the growing number of seminarians, as well as the steady increase in adult conversions. Last year, 1,200 were received, and this Easter we are projecting more than 1,600.
The Holy Father was visibly pleased and moved by these signs of renewal. I also spoke with him about the challenges we face in proclaiming the Gospel with fidelity and courage. He listened with great warmth, assured me of his prayers, and I promised him ours in return.
I was especially struck by his discernment and his deep desire for ecclesial unity rooted in truth and charity. I return home grateful and encouraged.
Please continue to pray for our Holy Father, and for the ongoing renewal of our archdiocese.

When I was at my lowest & worst as a young man, God sent priests into my life, especially in Confession, who loved me, encouraged me, & challenged me.
That’s the priest I strive to be. I work every day to build a community where the lost & brokenhearted can come to meet Jesus.
The more time I spend as a priest, the more I have discovered how God does His most amazing work by transforming our brokenness into something that helps others.
Whatever you’re going through right now, take it to Jesus! The best place to start is in Confession. Run to Him and let the great healing and conversion begin or deepen.
Last week, I had the joy of visiting St. Patrick’s Seminary in Menlo Park, California, where eight of our seminarians are currently in formation. I was grateful for the opportunity to celebrate Holy Mass with them, meet with each of them individually, and share a meal together.
Please continue to pray for these men, and for all those discerning a vocation to the priesthood. May the Lord raise up many more holy and faithful priests for His Church.
Photos from yesterday’s Holy Mass celebrated by Archbishop Alexander Sample on the 20th anniversary of his episcopal ordination. Please join us in prayer that the Holy Spirit may continue to strengthen him in faithful service to the Church.
God has blessed our local Church with 32 seminarians currently in formation. As we accompany them toward the priesthood, the financial needs of formation also grow. Your support of the Seminarian Appeal helps ensure these men are well formed for the salvation of souls and the spreading of the Gospel in our local Church.
