Number of People Without Access to Electricity by Country 1990-2025

[JJ. Omojuwa @Omojuwa]

I love this. I wanted the process to be completed before sharing an update but now that you asked...LOL.

Update:

1. I met the chef yesterday in Abuja, with my lawyers present. Noon meeting. She kept to time. I liked that. She shared a number of documents, including her employment and resignation letter.

2. The lawyers are preparing an agreement for the chef and me to sign. It transfers to me the right to recover the money. The lawyers made clear that it is not a debt matter. It is an employee rights matter.

3. The document comes through today. I sign. The chef signs. The N700,000 goes to her immediately after.

3. Then the company gets an email. Seven days to pay my money or produce a payment plan. They will also pay refund my legal fees.

PS: I learned something sitting with the lawyers yesterday. Employees are well favoured at our National Industrial Court, and the process moves faster than most litigation in this country. That was the second sweetest thing I heard all day.

You have been updated.

@xygort Bungee, sky diving?

[Justin Norman 🌍 @just_norm]

Last year, I went to Lagos, Nigeria 🇳🇬, where I visited Computer Village, the largest electronics market in the country. All of the used cell phones there came from China 🇨🇳.

So on my recent trip to China, I wanted to find the source at the other end of this supply chain.

My journey in Guangzhou started in Xiaobei, known as "Little Africa", where I met Mama Alhaja and her son Toye, who were buying goods to ship home and sell in Abuja.

They told me about another place - the Shengxian Dashatou Second-Hand Trade Market, where thousands of Africans source used electronics. There, I met Ousman, a Senegalese trader living in Guangzhou.

We talk a lot about China's trade with the US. But I think China’s trade with emerging markets is one of the most important forces in the global economy, and one of the least examined. So I got on the plane to explore it for myself.

When you become poor, you don't have to tell people; there will be signs

1. The quality of buildings and furnishings is very poor. Lots of unpainted buildings

2. I have not seen a new car apart from government cars

3. Public transportation is small minibuses or keke, all old, none with AC

4. Zero landscaping, wild grass everywhere

5. Police asking for gifts

6. Zero zoning of public spaces

7. No public Parks, libraries or pools

8. Fall in cars on the road, no one can afford gas

Everything looks like it stopped in 1980

Don't know why I find Taiwo Oyedele theoretical. So many of them in top places, all the paper certificates no real vim. Another one is the lady heading NAFDAC. M.Pate minster of Health is another

Young Kings.

Be mechanically curious and creative.

Buy an old broken electric generator. Watch YouTube and fix it.

Graduate to a motorcycle.

Graduate to a car.

None of this is stopping your regular hustle.

Don’t be complacent.

It is not every day you see a young man take silk, so I was especially glad to join Mohammed Adelodun at his investiture dinner this evening, just hours after he was sworn in as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

It has taken Mohammed years of hard work to get here. For any young Kwaran or Nigerian wondering whether the effort is worth it, I hope you look at him today and find a reason to keep going, even when progress feels slow.

I remember when they tried to sell us land in the Metaverse that year. One guy also tried to sell me a digital picture of corn and ube, say na NFT. Digital o. It wasn’t as if he would give them to me to eat after taking the picture. 😂

The problem with these innovations is that you don’t know which one will gel. You don’t know what will be the next Bitcoin. It is better to have an open mind and be receptive to new technologies.

However, it is still good to apply logic and basic common sense before parting with your money. If it sounds too good to be true, it very probably is.

If it requires no effort, if you cannot explain the source of the sudden wealth that supposedly comes with it, if people are pressuring you to join and come and partake in the largess, think very well o. “A fool and his money are soon parted.”

I am Ezemmuo. I know things.

"Whenever I remember that Monday Okoebholo won Asue Ighodalo and Olumide Akpata to become the Governor of Edo State, I kneel down and weep.

Asue Ighodalo and Olumide Akpata are two of the top 20 lawyers in Nigeria, if not top ten.

Distinguished themselves in academics, legal practice and business.

Asue co-founded Banwo and Ighodalo while Olumide helped build Templars with his cousin Oghogho Akpata.

For context,

Banwo and Ighodalo handled Dangote Refinery’s IPO and also the private placement. Deals worth billions of dollars.

Templars once won a $2.5 Billion case.

These law firms print tens of millions of dollars annually in earnings from just professional fees.

It would take a thousand Mondays to make one Olumide/Asue.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

Any day could have become the Governor of Edo State. Any day but Monday. 😑

My condolences to the people of Edo." Desire Meziem

You know that feeling when you book a flight for 50 quid and somehow it ends up costing 100?

Getting seats together, correcting a typo, another charge here and there, it all adds up.

When the cost of living is already squeezing people, those endless extras can feel relentless.

So we're changing the rules for you.

Parents won't need to pay a penny extra just to sit next to their own children.

You'll be able to fix any name errors on your booking free of charge.

And because the last thing you want once you're on the plane is more stress, we're working with the industry to make sure that disruptive passengers who have been banned from one airline can be banned from flying with other airlines too.

I know holidays are expensive and these are small things, but hopefully they'll make your trip just that little bit cheaper and easier.

That's exactly the kind of thing I want this government to keep on fixing.

I've just received a council tax bill for the house my Son lived in at the time of his death.

I told the council that he'd died in May of last year. They've sent a bill to me 17 months later.

I've suggested they give him a visit.

I was invited to this indoor wedding. When I reached the Venue (hotel) a few minutes ago, I found two doors with signs:
1. Bride's relatives
2. Groom's relatives

"Hmmmm, interesting," I said to myself as I entered the door marked* Groom's relatives* and found two more doors written:
1. Ladies
2. Men

I started giggling and getting happy for no reason, then entered the men's door and found two doors written:
1. People with gifts
2. People without gifts.

I entered the second door ( people without gifts). and found myself outside of the hotel.
