Stories like Archie with a rare PID are not so rare. Thankful for @AYKane leadership to est. first adult PID clinic @SVHSydney to leverage Prof John Moore & @SVH_BSCCR to deliver state-of-the-art precision immunology. Glad to be part of the team @GarvanInstitute@UNSWMedicine.
Great to meet @ChrisMinnsMP at Liverpool hospital today. Hope to work with you to improve access to treatments for rare primary immune deficiencies https://t.co/204OeoqCSG
@ChrisMinnsMP Great to meet you today at Liverpool Hospital. Thank you for listening to our concerns for our patients with rare genetic immunodeficiencies who need access to life saving treatments https://t.co/1UgzSzNKJQ
Primary immune deficiency is caused by genetic mutations that lead to immune dysfunction and subsequent susceptibility to infection. @ElissaDeenick@GarvanInstitute et al review the mechanisms underlying defective antibody responses in #PID. #immunology

A brief thread about what might be coming up in Australia to control #COVID19. I'll emphasise that what interventions are likely to work depend very much on the situation at the time, and not all are being considered in the near future, or even at all.
Sometimes we think of immunodeficiency and autoimmunity as opposite ends of a spectrum. But @ElissaDeenick points out that the two can overlap. She studies a syndrome in which the immune system (B cells) struggles to fight infection but targets the own body instead. #ASI2019SA
Lots of great talks from the @UNSWMedicine SOMS honours students. Congrats to @DeenickLab member Steph on a great honours project. Glad that you’re coming back next year to keep working with us. @AYKane@GarvanInstitute
Brilliant talk by @RCHMelbourne expert transplant immunolgist, Theresa Cole of the tough choices facing families with PID and the clinical teams that care for them and the potential transformative benefit a genomic result can offer @CIRCA_genomics
Today we held the 2nd @CIRCA_genomics symposium @GarvanInstitute. We kicked off in style with @IsabelleMeyts telling us about the pearls and pitfalls of NGS for PIDs. Inspired talks also by @vanessabryantoz and Therese Cole and many more. Thanks to all for coming! More tomorrow.
