You're confusing the ability to perform different footballing actions with overall footballing superiority.

Nobody disputes Ronaldo's aerial ability, athleticism, heading, finishing or ability to use both feet. He's exceptional.

But can we discuss the aspects where Messi is superior?

Dribbling isn't just stepovers. It's close control, balance, manipulating defenders, beating multiple opponents in tight spaces and retaining possession. Messi is superior in that department.

Long-range shooting? Messi has scored more goals from outside the box in the available career statistics.

Free kicks? Messi has more direct free-kick goals.

Playmaking? Messi has significantly more assists, key passes and chances created. And playmaking isn't just about the final pass. It's also about progressive carries, vision, through balls, controlling tempo and creating opportunities before the assist.

Game management? Messi can drop into midfield, dictate the rhythm, progress the ball, create chances and finish attacks.

And here's the question: Why should heading ability, physical attributes and the number of ways someone can score be the only measures of a complete footballer?

Ronaldo is an extraordinary goalscorer. Messi is an extraordinary goalscorer, creator, dribbler and playmaker.

You don't have to diminish Ronaldo to acknowledge Messi's superiority in those aspects.

A complete footballer isn't simply someone who can score every type of goal. It's someone who can influence virtually every phase of attacking play.
