For the first time in 10 years, Lagos will witness a top-flight football derby as Inter Lagos take on Sporting Lagos in what promises to be one of the most anticipated games of NPFL Matchday 3. 👀🔥 And the story behind this derby is already something. Sporting Lagos were actually supposed to have their first home game of the season last weekend against fellow Lagos side Ikorodu City. The fixture was scheduled for Sunday, September 6, at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena Onikan, but the game had to be postponed after the venue became unavailable due to a political activity involving the APC. The NPFL subsequently rescheduled the game for September 30. For Sporting supporters, it was a painful one. Some fans had already bought tickets and made plans for what was supposed to be a big homecoming after the club's return to the NPFL. But football has a funny way of writing its own script. 😭 Because Sporting's next game at Onikan is now another Lagos derby. Only this time, they are the away team. Inter Lagos 🆚 Sporting Lagos. And it will now become the first top-flight meeting between two Lagos clubs in a decade. The last NPFL Lagos derby was MFM vs Ikorodu United on July 3, 2016. 🔵 INTER LAGOS Inter have had a difficult introduction to life in the NPFL. They lost 2-1 away to Shooting Stars on opening day before suffering another narrow 1-0 defeat to Doma United at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. Two games. Two defeats. They will be desperate to finally get points on the board and doing it against another Lagos club would make it even sweeter. 🟠 SPORTING LAGOS Sporting also began their campaign with disappointment, losing 2-0 away to Doma United. Unlike Inter, however, they have played just one league game so far because their scheduled home derby against Ikorodu City was postponed. Now they return to Onikan for a much bigger occasion. And there is history here. Inter have never lost to Sporting Lagos in their previous recorded meetings, winning three and drawing one. Their most recent meeting came in May in the NNL Championship Group, where Inter claimed a 1-0 victory. But forget the history for a moment. This is the NPFL. This is Lagos.
