This afternoon, following the announcement of the Formula 1 African Grand Prix to take place in Rwanda, President Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame hosted a luncheon, where they were joined by @fia President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, @F1 President Stefano Domenicali, key private sector leaders on the continent and partners from the motorsports community.
“It is an honor and priviledge for Rwanda to be chosen as the destination in the Formula1 calendar.”
President Kagame on Rwanda being announced as the host for the Formula1 African Grand Prix for 10 years from 2030”
President Kagame
“It is an honour and privilege for Rwanda to be chosen as a destination in the Formula One calendar. What brought us together is a shared conviction that Africa has the potential to elevate the quality of motorsports as a global and elite discipline.
Integrating African markets with global sports franchises and competitions offers transformative opportunities. Yet, if we have to be honest with ourselves, this cross-border connection has existed for a long time, just not in Africa’s favour.
The message for all of us is simple: sports is a great equalizer, but we have to be intentional about delivering this promise. Rwanda is happy and excited to be part of a journey that will change how Africa is perceived in the world of sports. We want to contribute, not just participate, and this new chapter in motorsports starts today" President Kagame | Formula 1 African Grand Prix Announcement
Formula One is coming to Rwanda and returning to Africa after more than three decades. What an incredible achievement to see the Land of a Thousand Hills join the F1 calendar.
Immense thanks to Rwanda’s top leadership for their determination and for always pushing forward.
Africa always strives toward a common goal. Let's all celebrate this, because as #Rwanda wins, Africa wins too.

Speaking during a pre-event session organised by #ARCGroup and #INGD ahead of the International Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in Africa, scheduled to kick off tomorrow in Mozambique, I stressed the need to institutionalise, coordinate, and adequately finance preparedness.
Using Mozambique as an example, I said that the 2025 floods brought the reality of disasters into sharp focus, affecting communities and disrupting daily life, including in Maputo.
I noted that these experiences remind us that early warning must lead to timely action, supported by operational contingency plans and financing available when needed.
Preparedness and financial protection, he said, are essential to safeguard lives, livelihoods and development gains.
I stressed that the question is not whether another disaster will occur, but whether countries will be ready when it does.
I called on countries to ensure institutions know what to do, early warning systems trigger timely decisions, and contingency plans are operational.
Most critically, I said that the necessary financial resources must be available when they are needed most.

I have never been one to make a great fuss about my own birthday. Today, as I turn 61, what I feel most is gratitude.
There is something about this year, 2026, about all we have been through, the love we have shared and the losses we have felt, that makes the gift of another birthday especially precious. These moments remind us how much it matters to have people to share our lives with.
I am grateful for life. For my family, my friends and the people who quietly hold me up. For the privilege of serving this country I love. For all of you whose encouragement gives me strength, especially on the difficult days. I could not do this without you.
To everyone whose well wishes have reached me so early this morning, and everyone who will reach out throughout the day, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I feel the love, and I do not take a moment of it for granted.
Thank you for continuing to walk with me as the years go by, and as I give of my best in service to Barbados and our people.
I am going to try to enjoy today. I am still going to work, though! 😊
