Ukrainian 🇺🇦 drone strikes reportedly crippled Russia’s 🇷🇺 main southern grain ports in August. Yesterday, the regional governor finally declared a state of emergency, backdating it by six weeks to match when the damage actually began. Shipping had already been disrupted for more than a month before the paperwork caught up.

The same pressure is showing elsewhere. At Verkhny Lars, Russian authorities are towing away hundreds of vehicles abandoned by men fleeing mobilization. On the battlefield, Ukraine’s Operation Vivaldi is pushing unmanned warfare further: heavy drones reportedly carry tracked kamikaze robots as far as 10 km behind Russian lines, dropping them beyond trenches to continue the mission on the ground. One Ukrainian system, “Gryphon,” was credited with helping clear 30 km of minefield in two nights.

Inside Russia, the contradictions are piling up. Southern military units have reportedly been forced onto generators after drone strikes. VTB chief Andrei Kostin publicly warned about the erosion of property rights as the Kremlin seizes Western assets. Moscow is raising taxes to finance the war, while accounts from Krasnodar describe devastating losses among mobilized men. One tattoo artist said 48 of 52 draftees she knew returned in coffins, while her 20-year-old brother was allegedly beaten after refusing to sign a military contract.

The propaganda machine is hardly immune. An Izvestia correspondent reportedly broadcasts stories about Europe’s decline from a two-story villa in Berlin, Germany 🇩🇪, with an €89,000 Porsche outside. Putin reportedly spent heavily rebuilding his Sochi residence, yet rarely visits because of fears of Ukrainian drone strikes.

And abroad, the pressure is becoming more visible. Moscow publicly denied that envoys were meeting in New York, United States 🇺🇸, only for a Russian diplomat to arrive shortly afterward seeking delays to oil sanctions. At the UN, Polish 🇵🇱 Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski reduced the balance of power to a brutal equation: NATO’s economy is roughly 25 times larger than Russia’s.

His message to Sergey Lavrov was direct:

“You can still kill many people, but you cannot win. Sergei, tell your boss: enough is enough.”

Russia keeps promising that victory is only a few more months away.

Its emergencies, meanwhile, are already weeks old by the time Moscow admits they exist.
