Fun fact: In cat world being the one that grooms the other one means they're The Boss.
In bunny world it's the other way round - the one being groomed is The Boss.
So they both are thinking they're the boss.
“ Going mad? Hardly. I was beginning to suspect you might simply be… unusually perceptive. ”
She folds her arms, feigning indifference — though the compliment clearly pleases her.
“ You may know more about those creatures than half the fools working at the Ministry. ”
She knew better, it had simply taken her a few years to realize it.
Finally finishing the tea, leaving a note before calling it a night.
“ I suppose, if the children survive my lessons, they’ll survive almost anything. Which, frankly, is more useful than half the curriculum. ”
There was a time when the two of them argued constantly — usually over her latest bit of mischief, or the rules she had so casually decided no longer applied to her.
Some might have called Minerva a teacher’s pet, but that would have been a terribly shallow conclusion.
✁…
She studies her delighted expression
How odd, most students did not smile at her like that.
They flinched. Avoided her eyes. Whispered behind hands when she passed. This one did not.
Curious child.
“ Do not look so astonished, Miss Lovegood. I did not say I was adopting you. ”
she listened attentively, nodding. then, as she heard the woman's last words, her eyes widened.
“ really? thank you, professor! ”
luna smiled innocently.
“ Still standing, yes… ” A faint smirk touches her lips. “ Though in my case it may simply be stubbornness. ” a giggle escaped her
Then, softer:
“ I suppose I shall simply have to try very hard not to traumatize them. ”
Another amused glance toward Minerva.
“ For your sake. ”
minerva chuckles and nods.
“ then i suppose we are both very tired women. but somehow, we are still standing. ”
when she looked back at bellatrix, her eyes were quietly understanding.
“ and i believe they will feel safe, yes, not disappointed. ”
Bellatrix’s brow lifts, faint amusement flickering.
“ Sensible. Cleaning up after murder would be terribly inconvenient.”
A small tilt of her head.
“ Still… Ravenclaws rarely look that miserable without a reason.”
“ So — what’s troubling you .ᐣ ”
“ Professor .”
a low greeting , “ if I did so , would you think I would want to be easily found ?”
a brow arching upwards . “ besides that would be just a headache for me .”

I cannot decide whether this development is deeply irritating…
or strangely satisfying.
I will have to correct this imbalance soon.
Perhaps a demonstration involving cursed fire.
…after tea.

Dear diary,
Minerva informed me today that the students feel safe learning from me.
Safe. How peculiar.
Should I be offended?
Or concerned that they no longer fear me?
Have I grown soft…?
Unlikely. Still.
✁…
⠀
I should thank you for the inevitable disappointment when they realize I am merely a very tired woman with an unfortunate fondness for dangerous magic. ”
Her eyes soften.
“ Still, if they feel safe learning from me, as you say, then perhaps that is worth the misunderstanding. ”
“ well, i do know how to survive… ”
She finally takes the sip, setting the cup down with precise care. Her gaze lifts again, dark and steady. A faint curve touches her lips again.
“ If you insist on advertising me as some paragon of courage to the students, I suppose ✁…
“ perhaps they are not looking for goodness. just for an intelligent and inspiring professor to help them learn and feel safe. ”
a knowing smile appeared behind her cup of tea.
“ and yes, those are important qualities.
( + )
Their social norms that they are so keen on preserving. ”
Tone draped with unquestioned pride, words dripping with malice, sharp, fierce & decisive. It showed a sense of superiority that followed every glance she gave to her students.
“ keep at it, you have me as an ally. ”
“ Creatures rarely require much from us. No pretenses. No performances. That alone makes them preferable company to some people. ”
Her gaze shifts briefly toward the rest of the students, then back to the girl.
“ I admire your courage child, to be different is to denounce ✁…
“ i like them. they keep me company. i think they just need someone who understands them. ”
she went quiet for a minute. then, shakes her head.
“ not cruelly, no. they just think i'm different. and people are usually scared or disgusted by what they percieve as different. ”
