"No refund" ToS should be discouraged...

I've commissioned many people over the past two years, and it's vital to me that artists have a clear ToS with a fair refund plan baked in should they fail to meet agreed terms

It's up to you as a commissioner to read the ToS and make an informed decision with your money. An agreement to commission is an agreement of their ToS whether you actually read it or not

I made a choice this year to only work with artists who have a fair refund policy (if applicable) in place should there be delays on their end for example. A "no refund" policy isn't fair to the commissioner and doesn't take into account the artist's own failures

The money an artist takes is like a temporary loan in good faith that a product is delivered, and I don't think the artist should treat that money as if it is theirs until the work is complete

The stress of potentially losing thousands of dollars on a commission that takes years to come (or never) isn't worth how amazing the art is...as much as it pains me to say as an art enjoyer

There are so many amazing artists out there willing to take commissions and who will provide fair terms

I say this to myself as much as to other vtubers in the community, but it's far more socially acceptable to drop rent-level money on a single art piece as if it's nothing. If you wouldn't spontaneously buy yourself an iPad or a used car, please treat art comms with the same level of care

I know this isn't the exact situation for recent happenings in the community, but I hope that people approach artists with "no refund for any reason" terms with more hesitation
