A chuckle leaves her thin lips - It's airy, hollow almost. Ghosty perhaps. But despite her appearance, she's very much enjoying his company.
"Me? Oh I'm fine, really. Now. I was just on my way to brewing tea, and tea always is better with another. Care to join me?"
"Ah... Yes, that's right, Scar."
It brings back bad memories. He'd rather change the subject, his gaze taking in the young lady, though respectfully. He knows exactly what it feels like to be stared at, so he's careful.
"Take care of yourself, too, miss."
Your brother, he seems a lovely young man.
/Her scar covered hand drops back to her side, the other resting atop her hip.
I hope he's been safe with that killer on the loose, Scar I mean. I had heard he had an encounter twice in Central. Scary business that.
Actually, he's my older brother!
(If he could smile, he would! You can hear the pride in his voice when he talks about Edward.)
Nice to meet you—it's a pleasure.
(He lets go of her hands.)
/She's watching him carefully, a rare smile tugging at gaunt features.
Erika Howitzer. State Alchemist, specifically the. . . Bone Shaping Alchemist. You must be that brother of the Fullmetal Alchemist?.
(The giant suit of armor gently takes his hands in its own and shakes them. Its voice sounds like a child’s—or a teenager’s.)
Thank you for being so kind. My name is Alphonse Elric. Nice to meet you, Miss ...?
"Mmm, depends on what questions you have."
She's watching him before she leans back in her seat, bringing her own cup of tea to her lips.
"Lieutenant Erika Howitzer. The Bone Shaping Alchemist."
“ It’s about some questions I had. ” — She smiled and then placed the book on the desk. — “ And what is your name? ”
She ventured to ask, as it was the first time she had ever seen the other woman.
"Fair enough - I suppose it also makes someone less likely to peek at the research."
Her eyes drop to the book then flip back to him, shaking her head in a polite rejection.
"Thank you, but it's unnecessary. I am a bio alchemist first and foremost, so unless it's medical. . ."
“ I retain information better when I read rather than take notes. ” — I answered readily, extending the book toward him. — “ Want to take a look? ”
I ventured to offer him the book I was reading, just so he would know I was doing research.
"Mmm. . . Annotation is always something you can try. I always found it much more easier to digest information, unless of course it's from the library."
She's shrugging her shoulders, moving to be seated a bit away.
"Sticky notes in pages, underlining. That sorta thing."
“ I see. ” — He remained seated but picked up the teacup with his right hand. — “ The same thing happens to me when I try to learn something new. ”
He took a careful sip of the drink.
"Hm? Oh it's nothing, really. Just the doctor in me getting worried. You have been going at it for a few hours, I must admit. Makes me think of my medical school days."
A small tug of a smile decorates her gaunt face, scar covered hands linking together as she nodded her head.
He watches her as he glances up from the book he has been reading for a couple of hours.
“ Thanks anyway. ” —— he says immediately. —— “ I was about to take a break; keeping on reading is starting to irritate me.”
There's a blink, and a small laugh underneath her seemingly hollow breath.
"I apologize, I should have knocked. Please, keep yourself hydrated. Research is important but taking care of yourself is more important."
