Week 17: #OUB329 This week I have learned about leadership and storytelling, and how important stories are to understand other people’s perspectives. To better being able to help and mobilise for action and change.
Week 16: #OUB329 This week I have learned about precarious leadership and how precarious workers come together through social media to campaign for better pay and working conditions. Highlighting how important networking on social media is to leadership.
Week 15: #OUB329 This week I have learned about “Faces of power and resistance”. Fleming and Spicer (2007) developed a framework of four types of leadership power and four types of responses or resistance. Faces of resistance does not need to be negative, it could be positive too
Week 14: #OUB329 This week I have learned about tame, wicked and critical leadership challenges. Also learned about place-based leadership, that would be needed to solve issues in my own local community.
Week 12: #OUB329 This week I have learned about the importance of making leadership decisions that would benefit all, #positivesum approach, however, as business is competitive and visions are different it is challenging to achieve the common good.
Week 11: #OUB329 This week I have learned about constructive dissent, and that speaking out at leadership decisions could lead to positive debate moving forward and looking at alternative ways to solving problems and conflicts.
Week 10: #OUB329 This week I have learned about relational leadership strategies. How to influence, motivate and mobilise leaders by building relationships. Found this very useful as I can influence leadership at my workplace.
Week 9: #OUB329 This week I have learned about collaborative leadership. Developing positive relationships and collaborations, according to quiz I’m a “Team Player”however, got a few points to reflect over to get the most out of collaborative opportunities.
Week 8: #OUB329 This week I have learned about different leadership styles, and how it is important to use a mix to suit the situation #situationalleadership I have checked my leadership style flexibility and now know what I have to work on.
Week 7: #OUB329 This week I am learning about developing leadership identity. About inspiring others and reflecting over what traits are important to become a better leader. Also, reading about evaluating and changing leadership identity really interesting.
Week 5: #OUB329 This week I am learning about how to improve leadership skills, about understaning the perspective of other people, and be aware of topics people are debating at any one time. So that I will be able to understand and expand audience and followers.
Week 4: #OUB329 Learning about leadership in a multicultural world, that culture determine how leaders think and behave. It is imperative that leaders have an understanding of their own culture and how other cultures are different from their own. #multiculturalmindset
Week 3: #OUB329 Learning about #populism. In an uncertain, turbulent environment people are looking for dramatic change. Resulting in populist movements by “ordinary people” wanting to replace the leading “elite” However, this could result in authoritarian elitist leadership.
Week 2: #OUB329 Learning about #precarity in the UK. Seems to be a very depressing and downward spiral. Also learning that zero hour contracts are widely used in the UK, however, they are illegal in other countries.
Week 1: #OUB329 Learning about adaptive leadership and Heifetz, Grashow and Linsky six principles. Finding number 3 “Regulating distress” very interesting. Change is stressful, but leaders must not protect people from change, but help them adapt and want to change.
