Is knife crime impacting your feeling of safety where you live? Would you move because of rising rates? @B329Leadership
Do places really matter to people? 🤯#calltoaction#version1
Social change organisations are integral for developing positive change and challenging issues. Leadership through storytelling is key for creating an emotive message to engage followers to support causes, additionally enhancing areas like reframing a discourse. #OUB329WK17
Activist Leadership was very interesting. A key underlying factor is that purpose can be as strong, or even stronger than any good leader. Democratic leadership practices like Agonism and its use of conflict in a constructive manner I found fascinating also. #OUB329WK16
Resistance leadership was this week’s topic. Areas such as overt/covert practices and the faces of power/resistance were interesting. Looking at these has given me a deeper understanding from both followers/leaders perspective and the complex nature of these areas. #OUB329WK15
I’d better start focusing on the leadership challenge. Decided to collaborate than go solo. No doubt certain aspects of this week’s teaching will be key when preparing and deciding what to pursue for the call to action. #OUB329WK14#B329LeadershipChallenge
This week’s studies were related to place-based leadership focusing on how to approach and implement local and national leadership effectively. A key framework learned was to categorize if a challenge was tame, wicked, or critical. For wicked, collaboration is key. #OUB329WK14
This week's topic was about game theory regarding positive/negative/zero-sum. Collaboration can be challenging and positive outcomes can be unrealistic. Leaders who include strategies like vision of success/managing aims increases the chance of a win/win outcome. #OUB329WK12
Whilst inevitable at some point, Conflict was something that I personally thought was negative and tried to avoid. This topic has shown that isn’t always the case. Expressing differences and being honest isn’t always insubordination and is sometimes sorely needed. #OUB329WK11
I enjoyed learning about this week’s topic of conflict/change. Interesting regarding how when conflict arises it can be managed and used to inspire discussion and ideas. Constructive Dissent is a useful framework when looking into how to achieve positive outcomes. #OUB329WK11
Traditional hierarchy is weaker in the modern ‘networked’ society, strongly impacting followership’s influence towards leadership and decisions taken within an organisation. Interesting learning how Relational/Follower-centred leadership can be effective in this area. #OUB329WK10
Collaboration is vital within organisations and leaders should look to support it. It increases trust, loyalty, and purpose, encourages different styles of thought and problem solving, and team growth. A great team is better than a great individual! #OUB329WK9
The Style Flexibility Matrix is an interesting exercise to understand which style you favour when presented with a problem. By developing all four areas, it will help create the best balance for the most effective answers and improving a leaders adaptability. #OUB329WK8
Inclusiveness and Diversity is essential for leaders. By embracing different cultures, we can find different and more creative solutions. For inclusion to be maximised, it must go beyond internal inclusion and to look to add external inclusion too. #OUB329WK8
Really enjoyed this week’s topic of identity within leadership. By self-reflecting to understand your identity, you can learn the best way to control or create your ideal identities and when to switch between them. #OUB329WK7
Learnt about how to conduct Blogs/Interview. Baxter’s ‘inverted pyramid’ is a key structure to follow when creating a blog. Planning the structure and question type will help gain a greater understanding of the situation and interviewees perspective. #OUB329WK5
Understanding culture is important for leadership and ideally leaders must look to develop a global mindset. GLOBE dimensions/regional clusters despite a few limitations an interesting exercise/framework to identify and understand cultural differences. #OUB329WK4
It’s understandable why people follow populist movements/charismatic leaders especially in turbulent times to initiate positive change. However this can cause more division, when charismatic leaders with unethical motives can manipulate followers beliefs and trust. #OUB329WK3
Good leaders will understand the issues relating to precarity and fight against it. We all rely on each other, so by creating an environment which is free of precarity will contribute to maximum workplace potential and productivity. #OUB329WK2
