Americans say they aren’t being paid enough to be a Nanny for the amount of work that’s required
“You want us to be a house cleaner, a cook, um, a chauffeur, a dog watcher and walker, and you think that $18 an hour is acceptable”
This is in California, and I found that this isn’t too far off from the average
The statewide average for nanny rates in California is about $22 an hour on the lower end unless you have a lot of experience or get lucky with a higher payer
Compare that to daycare costs and it’s about $1,300 per 2 weeks for full time and up to $900 for 2 weeks part time
A storm in New York unearthed a grave hidden for over 100 years.
On June 18, 2026, severe winds reaching up to 54 mph swept through Rochester, New York, toppling a massive tree at the historic Mount Hope Cemetery. As the tree’s roots pulled free from the earth, they dragged up a long-lost headstone that had been buried underground for decades.
The remarkably preserved grave marker belonged to Edna Amelia Goodman Allen, a young mother who was born in 1892 and passed away in 1918 at the age of 26.
Over the last century, soil accumulation and the expanding root system of the growing tree had slowly enveloped and concealed her resting place.
Cemetery volunteers with the nonprofit Friends of Mount Hope, who regularly work to preserve and restore the historic grounds, immediately stepped in to document the discovery.
Once the area is safely cleared of storm debris, the team plans to repair the surrounding ground, clean the headstone, and properly restore it to its rightful place. While Edna's story had faded from memory for generations, her sudden return to the light has captivated local historians and community members alike, breathing new life into the cemetery's rich history.
