One of the most significant proposals to come from the holographic principle in physics is the equivalency of multiply connected spacetime geometry with quantum entanglement. Quantum entanglement is a phenomenon in which physical systems appear to be connected in such a way that their states remain instantaneously correlated no matter the time or distance separation between them. This seems to imply some connection between the physical systems that defies relativity theory, because any change in the state of the physical systems is being communicated faster than the speed of light, which seems mysterious— so much so that Einstein famously called it 'spooky action at a distance'. Yet, Einstein's theory does have a solution that allows for seeming faster-than-light transmissions, known as Einstein-Rosen bridges, or more popularly as wormholes. The holographic conjecture demonstrates how some quantum states, like entanglement, are equivalent to gravitational interactions / spacetime geometries, like wormholes. So, the mystery is resolved as it becomes clear that the physical process underlying quantum entanglement is not some mysterious force, but quantum wormholes. A new class of experiments are being proposed and tested to demonstrate this holographic correspondence conjecture, such as a recent proposal to demonstrate that counterfactual quantum teleportation is equivalent to transmission through a traversable wormhole.
