Grandson Arrested After Viral Video Allegedly Shows Him Punching, Kicking and Assaulting His Grandmother Who Questioned Him About Missing Pension Grant Funds

A suspect accused of assaulting his grandmother at a local tavern in eMagogeni, under the Nkomazi Local Municipality in Mpumalanga, has been arrested. The arrest follows the circulation of a video that allegedly shows the incident, which drew widespread public attention over the weekend.

The footage allegedly shows the man attacking the elderly woman with punches, kicks and a beer crate while bystanders watched. The grandmother was left lying on the tavern floor following the alleged assault. The video spread widely on social media platforms after the incident.

According to reports, the grandmother had gone to the tavern after discovering that her pension grant money was missing. When she questioned her grandson about the missing funds, he allegedly became violent and assaulted her. The incident reportedly occurred at the local tavern in eMagogeni.

Police arrested the suspect on Sunday, 7 June 2026. He is expected to appear in a local magistrate’s court soon. The incident has sparked public outrage, with many calling for strong action against individuals accused of abusing and exploiting elderly family members.
