Well…the most unexpected thing just happened.

I was at my local grocery store, making a turn into the frozen vegetable aisle when I noticed something out of the ordinary.

There was a lady on the ground on her back, with a few people standing around her on their phones. The lady was roughly middle aged and unresponsive.

I rushed to ask what happened, if anyone was around. The crowd responded that she was alone and no one saw what happened. I noticed she was mildly shaking, guppy breathing and had a pool of blood underneath her head. Luckily the victim’s phone was unlocked and a bystander was able to call the person she was texting with, who happened to be her husband. We shifted the woman to the left lateral recumbent position to hopefully secure her airway. At this point the victim still had a pulse and the breathing began to stabilize.

By that time, the grocery store workers arrived and I asked them if they could grab an AED just in case. Additional workers arrived and they cordoned the area to prevent crowds from gathering. A few minutes later, the woman began to regain some consciousness and her husband arrived.

EMS arrived on scene and I was able to give a medical report and treatment I had conducted and I left. Finished shopping.

The moral of the story: Always be prepared. You never know when your skills may be needed. Good samaritans still exist.

As previously promised, we have officially integrated missing adult cases into our Missing Persons Map!

Using data from the FBI and NamUs, we've created a consolidated resource to help bring greater visibility to missing children and now missing adults.

We're still working on importing photographs, with more than 22,000 cases in the NamUs database alone. Sadly, some missing persons don't even have a photograph available, making awareness and visibility that much more important.

Our adult map will offer many of the same features already available on our children's map, including the ability to quickly generate and print missing-person flyers with QR codes linking directly to each individual's NamUs case profile.

This is an ongoing project, and we'll continue improving the tools and resources available to help families, advocates, and communities spread awareness.

Laken Riley had a Garmin smartwatch on when she was attacked

Her heart rate jumped to 170 bpm which told investigators that was when she was being attacked

It lasted for 17 minutes then suddenly stopped - that's when the animal finally killed her

So the next time you want to tell me about how unfair illegal immigrants are being treated I want you to set a timer for 17 minutes and watch it go by so you can understand how long that young woman fought for her life
