There’s money in the bank.

The bills are getting paid.

Nothing looks particularly alarming.

So it’s easy to think:

I’ll deal with the bookkeeping later.

But a healthy bank balance can exist right alongside unhealthy books.

A healthy bank balance can tell you how much money is sitting in the account today.

It cannot tell you whether every transaction has been categorized correctly, whether your accounts have been reconciled, whether something was entered twice, or whether months of unanswered transactions are quietly piling up behind the scenes.

That’s why a business can have money in the bank and still have bookkeeping that needs attention.

And this is where “I’ll catch it up later” becomes more expensive than it sounds.

Because the longer a transaction sits unexplained, the harder it may be to remember exactly what it was, where the receipt went, or how it should have been handled.

And that creates an uncomfortable question:

If you wouldn’t knowingly make an important business decision using incomplete information… why is “I’ll catch up the books eventually” still good enough?

So if you’ve been telling yourself, “I’m probably fine. I’ll straighten everything out later,” there are really only three possibilities.
