This is not an error, it is a fraud, and the man running it has run it for more than forty years.
The OECD counts any child below half of his own country's median income, which measures distance from the middle, not hunger, not want. Because America's median is the highest of any large nation, our "poverty" line sits above the typical family's entire income in Greece and Portugal on his own chart. If every American income doubled tomorrow, his number would not move. The senator knows this. The definition is printed on the source he cites, and he repeats the word poverty anyway, because poverty is the word that opens your wallet and inequality is not.
Now name the purpose. The number exists to incite envy, the oldest fuel of his creed. He needs you to resent your neighbor's earnings before you will hand him the power to seize them, so the guilt is manufactured first and the confiscation follows. And it is not his method alone. It is the whole movement's method this season, the wealth taxes, the government groceries, the billionaire chants, envy renamed compassion and sold as justice.
Here is the alarming part: it works. Our culture is so intellectually disarmed, by schools that teach neither economics nor logic, that millions read this chart and believe the freest economy in history starves its children. A nation that can no longer define poverty can no longer defend property, and that is the exact condition his agenda requires.
Rand named the root in The Age of Envy: hatred of the good for being the good. A man who spends four decades cultivating that hatred through a definition switch he has had every chance to correct is not a humanitarian with sloppy math. He is what his creed requires, and the word for him and those like him is evil.
@WiscoGrant@TheDunkCentral I think it all comes down to Brad the anointed one Steven's completely bungled it and jimmy probably had very little to do with the outcome, but I know some folks (not you) wanted to tar and feather him no matter which way it went
