Why is everyone scared to call out the problem of this team?? It’s Bruno.

Vitinha is doing his job by setting tempo and controlling rhythm.

For me, the biggest issue is Bruno. He’s an outstanding creator in chaotic, transition-heavy matches, but in a controlled possession system he’s not as effective. That’s why he’s struggling here

Portugal spend long periods circulating the ball against a settled defense, and that demands patience, positional discipline, and precise combinations. Bruno naturally wants to force the killer pass early, which can disrupt the rhythm and lead to rushed attacks.

That doesn’t mean he’s a bad player, it means his strengths are different. In a stable possession system, you need a creator who manipulates space with patience. Bruno is at his best when the game is open and unpredictable, not when he has to unlock a deep block through sustained possession.

How are people just realizing Bruno can’t create in a stable system like the likes of Ozil, KDB? He needs chaos to thrive.

He’s at his best when the game is stretched, transitions are constant, and he’s allowed to take high-risk passes over and over again. That’s where his volume of chance creation comes from.

Put him in a team that values control, positional discipline, and patient circulation, and some of his biggest strengths become limitations. He isn’t the type to dictate tempo, manipulate blocks with subtle passing, or constantly find solutions against a settled defence the way Ozil or De Bruyne can.

That doesn’t make him a bad creator. It just means he’s a different profile. Bruno is an elite transition creator, not a control creator, and there’s a big difference between the two.
