Remarkably; #Andromeda_galaxy is one of the few galaxies seen to be traveling toward the Milky Way, not away from it.
In approximately 4.5 billion years a gigantic collision will take place between the #MilkyWay and its neighbour the #Andromeda galaxy.

Scientists use the #Redshift & the #Blueshift to study the movement of galaxies. If the source is approaching the observer the light is shifted to a higher frequency (blue) & if it is receding, to a lower frequency (red).

This means that the further away the galaxies are, the faster they are moving. This is similar to an explosion, where the bits moving fastest travel furthest from the explosion. Redshift data provides evidence that the Universe, including space itself, is expanding. #NASA
