The Department of Archives was established by an Act of Parliament in 1971. It is the final repository for permanent records and archives of the government.
The Bahamas Primary School Student of the Year Foundation has maintained its commitment to deposit on an annual basis its publications to the Department of Archives. Ricardo P. Deveaux, Foundation President and Chairman Vandyke Pratt made the deposit on behalf of the members.
A list of Methodist Sunday Schools 1906 shows that the Harbour Island, Governors Harbour and Tarpum Bay/San Salvador Districts had more scholars and teachers than Nassau. But we must remember that up to the 1890s about 80% of the population lived in the Out Islands.
