Spent a few hours volunteering at Big Dog Ranch Rescue today.

I originally showed up hoping to get my dog fix. Instead, I ended up helping with something the Ranch desperately needs right now: working through a backlog of nearly 9,000 adoption applications.

One thing many people may not realize is that these applications aren’t being reviewed by an automated system. Every single application is read, reviewed, and processed by a real live person. In some cases, that person might even be me.

The volume has been incredible, largely driven by the national attention surrounding the Ridglan Beagle Rescue. The staff and volunteers are absolutely swamped, but they’re working hard to make sure each application gets the attention it deserves and that dogs are matched with the right homes.

If you’ve submitted an application and are waiting to hear back, please be patient. There are a lot of dedicated people spending long hours behind the scenes reading applications, checking information, and helping these dogs find families.

The good news is that this backlog exists because thousands of people saw dogs in need and decided to help. That’s a pretty nice problem to have.

And yes, after a few hours of paperwork, I did eventually get some quality dog time in. Occupational hazard of volunteering at a dog rescue. 🐶❤️

By the way, the beautiful silver fellow up front is my Gotland fiber sheep, Hank. He’s more like a dog than a sheep—he follows you around, leans into you for scratches, and soaks up every bit of attention he can get.

He’s even made his way into our house a time or two!

If this order isn’t signed today, Lucy will spend at least another day in a cell.

I spend yet another day in a courtroom. My sons will miss the final day of VBS - the one everyone has been looking forward to, with sprinklers, slip-and-slides, and squirt guns. And I won’t be able to attend my daughter’s ballet recital.

This is a great deal of unnecessary hardship, especially since I’ve already signed the deal. Yet this entire ordeal - nearly two months now - has caused far too much avoidable suffering over an innocent incident that took place in my own yard and was over in seconds.

I don’t blame malice. I blame procedural quirks, bureaucratic inefficiencies, and an overly heavy-handed government.

It’s no wonder C.S. Lewis imagined the demon Screwtape disguised as a senior bureaucrat and Hell as a mundane, if gruesome, administrative system.

As most of you can probably tell by now, I set this Save Lucy profile up to support the #SaveLucy effort from a different angle: crypto.

The crypto guys have been there for me since the beginning. They have been an essential part of this effort, and some are truly committed to seeing Lucy returned, using their knowledge of something that I know almost nothing about to help in whatever way they can.

I'm a normie. I don't do crypto. But I do appreciate the help.

This is me, Brendan (@brendanmjones), writing. I set up this X (then Twitter) login years ago to keep an eye on some of the jihadi chatter around me. I just repurposed it for the new battle I'm fighting.

Where do things stand now? I'm feeling very optimistic. I wouldn't be surprised - I'm trying to balance my giddy excitement with sobriety, not wanting to count my chickens before they hatch, but barely able to contain myself - to see Lucy released as soon as this afternoon. We'll see.

What's next after that? I just want to take some time and focus on her. It's been seven weeks in a cell today. We have some catching up to do. When she's ready, and when I'm ready, I want to turn my guns to bear on the fight to #SaveSnuggles. @Herb_Minstrel and I are already thinking about a road trip to Arizona. One dog coming to the rescue of another. One veteran family coming to the aid of another in need.

Then there's the book I'm working on. I've hammered out a few chapters already. Honestly, I'm a man obsessed. I want to make the idea of the state euthanizing Lucy as unthinkable as the idea of the state killing Little Ann, Old Yeller, or Lassie. Pray that I will be up for the telling of her story.

Friends, I need to ask for something today.

Yolanda is scheduled for her liver surgery this afternoon between 2:00 and 3:00 PM Pacific Time.

This operation is critical. The surgeons will be fighting to remove the complication that the colon cancer which has metastasized turning our lives upside down and has tested us in ways I never thought possible.

Over the past five plus years, Yolanda has endured more than anyone should have to bear—surgeries, treatments, setbacks, victories, and countless battles that most people never see. I only share maybe one out of five. 😢

Through it all, she has remained remarkably strong, faithful, and courageous. She is still inspiring hospital employees, doctors and nurses with her counsel, wisdom and kind words.

Today, I'm asking for a massive wave of prayer.
Please pray for:

🙏 God's hand to guide every surgeon, nurse, and member of the medical team.

🙏 A successful operation with no complications.

🙏 Complete removal of the cancer.

🙏 Strength, peace, and comfort for Yolanda before, during, and after surgery.
