Often on #Safari Game Drives, guests who leave Baker & Sons lodge as the African sun is rising come upon elephants parading across the road, in a sparring match or just feeding on bushes at the roadside - all before we enter the official gates of the park!

It's our policy as a safari lodge to get our guests into the park first, early in the morning, before any other safari company vehicle has the pleasure of waking up the wild African beasts on the day's first pass through the Great Selous. Our efforts are often rewarded. This photo is a testament to that.

Also called a 'herd', or a 'journey' when they're on the move. This group, known as a Tower of Giraffe, overlooks the whole African savanna. They are the first to spot predators, like lions, approaching from the distance. For that reason, shorter prey like impala and warthogs stay close to these watchtowers.

A Postcard from East Africa.

Imagine yourself on Safari, on a game drive in a classic landcruiser. The guide points out impala, a herd of giraffe on the move and a male kudu with its proud corkscrew horns, standing in the distance. You turn a corner, deeper into the unspoiled bush. Through the wilderness you make out the outline of a beast. You cautiously approach. The giant mammal is waving his oversized ears, fanning his body under the African sun. You hear behind you a rustle, and to the side; you're caught in the middle of a parade of tembo. A whole elephant family have surrounded you. The guide shuts off the vehicle. You're in their world, and there's nothing left to do but sit back and enjoy this graceful display.

What would you write back home? At Baker & Sons lodge, we've printed our own postcards. We'll mail them for you as well. Naturally, for such a vintage holiday as this, an email won't suffice.

African Bush Elephants, locally known as #Tembo, are the kings of the beasts. They are the first to cut the paths through the jungle. These #Elephant Paths become animal trails and even roads for vehicles. The Bush Beasts come and go as they please, where they please. In this clip, we're on foot and they pass right in front of us!

With a mouth so large, and teeth so long and savage, if one didn't know any better they'd conclude that this massive skull belonged to a meat eater. But the #creation bends to the will of the #designer. This famous beast is an oversized lawnmower.

Out of the water they march, night after night. They trim the grasses of the wild plains under the African moon. Before the sun rises they're back in the river.

Found only in a few remaining places on earth, the African Wild Dog is an undomesticated canine – a specimen of God’s handiwork. Adorned with a beautiful coat, this dog hunts in packs. Like all fellow members of its species, it has an exceptional amount of endurance. Among the places where you can still spot the #WildDog, the #SelousGameReserve in #Tanzania, East Africa is one of them.
