BIG | 🇪🇪🇱🇻🇱🇹🇷🇺‼️‼️ Russian opposition figure Garry Kasparov is calling for a dramatic strengthening of NATO’s nuclear deterrence on its eastern flank, arguing that the Baltic states should host nuclear-capable missiles as a way to deter any future Russian military escalation.

Kasparov argues that placing such systems in the Baltics, with Moscow within roughly ten minutes of flight time, would fundamentally change Russia’s calculations. His position is based on the logic of deterrence: an aggressor is less likely to initiate a war when it believes the consequences of retaliation would vastly outweigh any potential gains.

Kasparov’s proposal reflects the increasingly hard-line deterrence debate emerging as Russia intensifies pressure against NATO’s eastern members. Deploying nuclear-capable systems in the Baltics would represent a major change in NATO’s current posture and carry substantial escalation risks, but his broader argument is that credible deterrence depends on convincing Moscow that any attack on the alliance would produce consequences the Kremlin could not afford.
