I don’t want to post the video. You’ve all seen it. But I do want to write a love letter…
Dear everyone in Britain, ( even you illegals)
Just so you understand. The poppy is for the boys who never got to grow old. For the boys who were still somebody’s baby, brother, uncle or father. More than 600,000 of them.
It doesn’t matter if you support war, hate your country, think you are a woman (even though you are a man). It doesn’t matter which God you pray to, or if you pray to none at all.
It doesn’t matter who you vote for, what climate narrative you believe, or whether you believe Israel should exist or not!
The poppy isn’t for you!
It’s for those who came before. Those who fought for your right to be weird, annoying or even foreign.
The poppy is how we say thank you. Thank you for giving us time, peace and choice.
And attempting to ban our poppy by declaring it politically divisive isn’t a move towards freedom. It is an act of suppression. Understand that.
The poppy is about love and loss. For you!
So stick your rainbow flags and every other flag where the sun doesn’t shine and just wear your poppy. Those boys did not die as symbols. They died for you!
Did you know that poppies grew across the battlefields where so many fell? As though even the land refused to forget the blood once given to defend it.
So the poppy is for them. For those who came before us and paid in youth, in hope, in breath, in blood, so that we might have the freedom to be arseholes.
So that we might even have the freedom to fight over the ridiculous, the inconsequential and the insane.
Revere it, celebrate it and wear it. The very least you can do is that.
Best
The ordinary people.
@smilebehappyOO1 Stretch; tennis ball on your foot sole; Birkenstock’s for house slippers; orthotics (professionally prescribed) in everyday shoes. It does take time but there is relief.
@newsdurham Hope this can be sustained. Maybe the City will stop ticketing the Automotive Museum for ‘activities’ in their parking lot. I would encourage the museum to gate the area at the very least.
A reminder from The Royal Canadian Legion.
With the Poppy Campaign and Remembrance Day approaching, you will begin to see a variety of retailers popping up illegally selling products using the Poppy for profit. (flags, hats, shirts, blankets, jewelry etc.)
The reason The Royal Canadian Legion holds the trademark on the Poppy is to ensure this sacred symbol of Remembrance is used with respect and to protect it from unauthorized retailers who use the symbol inappropriately.
When purchasing your Remembrance items, please ensure they are from an authorized source - such as https://t.co/55a0Pa6AqO, https://t.co/tn1sxANJrP , or your local Legion Branch. When you shop through these channels, you can be confident that proceeds go directly to the Legion, helping us continue our important work with and for Canada’s Veterans.
The Durham Regional Police Service (DRPS) is alerting parents, caregivers, and community members to an increase in online threats involving coordinated groups known as “The Com” (short for the Community).
“The Com” is a network of online predators who use grooming, manipulation, coercion, and intimidation to exploit young people, which can lead to violent and/or criminal behaviour. Offenders often build trust, create secrecy through fear or shame, and pressure victims into harmful or unsafe activities.
These groups target children and youth aged 8 to 17 across popular online platforms, including Discord, Telegram, Snapchat, Roblox, Minecraft, Twitch, and Steam.
These online predators operate using the following tactics:
- Building trust through friendship or romantic attention
- Manipulating youth using fear, guilt, or intimidation
- Coercing victims into harmful or unsafe activities, including:
o Creating or sharing inappropriate and exploitative images or videos
o Engaging in self-harm or harm toward others or animals
o Displaying concerning usernames, symbols, or messages
o Coercing children to participate in crimes—such as hoax 9‑1‑1 calls (swatting), online attacks, or sharing harmful content—often without realizing the seriousness of what they’re being manipulated into.
- Forcing compliance through threats such as exposing private information, doxing, or swatting.
DRPS has recently responded to a number of incidents in the community that are believed to be linked to this online predatory group.
Parents and caregivers are encouraged to watch for patterns or clusters of the following behaviours:
- Use of encrypted apps (e.g., Discord, Telegram) without parental knowledge
- Withdrawal, secrecy, mood changes, or declining academic performance
- Increased or secretive use of phones or electronic devices
Interest in extreme or harmful online ideologies
- New online contacts your child seems unusually attached to—or afraid of
While one of these signs may not be of concern, multiple indicators together may warrant attention.
You can help protect your child by talking to them about the risks of sharing personal information or images online. Ask direct, non-judgmental questions about the platforms they use and the individuals they interact with. Ensure you have access to your child’s online platforms and regularly review their activity. Pay close attention to platforms with chat or group features.
If you notice any concerning online activity or individuals on online platforms that may pose a safety risk, report it to DRPS at 1-888-579-1520.

@NT_pfisher Community walk in clinics could alleviate some of the ER pressure. There are limited resources in Cobourg and Port Hope if you are a regular patient, especially pediatric. It feels like addiction services rank higher.
Most everyone in Guelph have a memory about a time Robert Munsch showed up, and if they don’t, they know someone who does. For more than 50 years, the children’s author has made himself a part of the city’s collective consciousness and, chances are, if you grew up there, he visited your school. You might have seen him read from his books at the Guelph Public Library. Or he may have told you a story at a public park, a Christmas party, or from his front stoop. In return, he has become a part of the city’s identity.
Last fall, Munsch made headlines for disclosing to the New York Times that he has chosen MAID, or medical assistance in dying, a decision spurred by a 2021 Parkinson’s and dementia diagnosis. His memory is now faltering, and will continue to fade. But in Guelph, encounters with Munsch have been so widespread over time, they form something of a living, breathing memory of his life as an artist, contained within the city’s borders.

@joe_warmington Really tired of reading how money is wasted. I have no say in where my tax dollars go. This would not be a choice to support. If I ran my household like this I would be living in a box.
American Dictator creators, William Palma (13), Adam Palma (15), Kiara Palma (17) and Lauren Ip (14), who designed the board’s graphics, are donating part of the proceeds to a local food bank. These are the future leaders we need.❤️

@nationalpost One more reason people are angry all the time. Go to work, raise families, pay bills and stay out of trouble. All seems to be for nothing. Everyone has garbage in their past, but we don’t lean on it for blame n
@WeAreCanProud Not acceptable. Segregate from general female population or put them in the men’s prison. General pop. See how it gets handled the other way.
