Ethereum itself must pass the walkaway test.

Ethereum is meant to be a home for trustless and trust-minimized applications, whether in finance, governance or elsewhere. It must support applications that are more like tools - the hammer that once you buy it's yours - than like services that lose all functionality once the vendor loses interest in maintaining them (or worse, gets hacked or becomes value-extractive). Even when applications do have functionality that depends on a vendor, Ethereum can help reduce those dependencies as much as possible, and protect the user as much as possible in those cases where the dependencies fail.

But building such applications is not possible on a base layer which itself depends on ongoing updates from a vendor in order to continue being usable - even if that "vendor" is the all core devs process. Ethereum the blockchain must have the traits that we strive for in Ethereum's applications. Hence, Ethereum itself must pass the walkaway test.

This means that Ethereum must get to a place where we _can ossify if we want to_. We do not have to stop making changes to the protocol, but we must get to a place where Ethereum's value proposition does not strictly depend on any features that are not in the protocol already.

This includes the following:

* Full quantum-resistance. We should resist the trap of saying "let's delay quantum-resistance until the last possible moment in the name of ekeing out more efficiencies for a while longer". Individual users have that right, but the protocol should not. Being able to say "Ethereum's protocol, as it stands today, is cryptographically safe for a hundred years" is something we should strive to get to as soon as possible, and insist on as a point of pride.
* An architecture that can expand to sufficient scalability. The protocol needs to have the properties that allow it to expand to many thousands of TPS over time, most notably ZK-EVM validation and data sampling through PeerDAS. Ideally, we get to a point where further scaling is done through "parameter only" changes - and ideally _those_ changes are not BPO-style forks, but rather are made with the same validator voting mechanism we use for the gas limit.
* A state architecture that can last decades. This means deciding, and implementing, whatever form of partial statelessness and state expiry will let us feel comfortable letting Ethereum run with thousands of TPS for decades, without breaking sync or hard disk or I/O requirements. It also means future-proofing the tree and storage types to work well with this long-term environment.
* An account model that is general-purpose (this is "full account abstraction": move away from enshrined ECDSA for signature validation)
* A gas schedule that we are confident is free of DoS vulnerabilities, both for execution and for ZK-proving
* A PoS economic model that, with all we have learned over the past half decade of proof of stake in Ethereum and full decade beyond, we are confident can last and remain decentralized for decades, and supports the usefulness of ETH as trustless collateral (eg. in governance-minimized ETH-backed stablecoins)
* A block building model that we are confident will resist centralization pressure and guarantee censorship resistance even in unknown future environments

Ideally, we do the hard work over the next few years, to get to a point where in the future almost all future innovation can happen through client optimization, and get reflected in the protocol through parameter changes. Every year, we should tick off at least one of these boxes, and ideally multiple. Do the right thing once, based on knowledge of what is truly the right thing (and not compromise halfway fixes), and maximize Ethereum's technological and social robustness for the long term.

Ethereum goes hard.

This is the gwei.

Dear Degens.

@circle is launching their ARC blockchain on 16 September.

They want it to be positioned as a serious chain for AI agents.

As such they have kindly requested that we don't create launchpads, memecoins and other f@ckery on the chain.

Your adherance to their request would be appreciated.

Bond yields ripping to 22-year highs and BTC still pushing $80K? That's not supposed to happen in the old playbook. Feels like the macro rules are getting rewritten in real time. Anyone else seeing this shift? #Bitcoin

[Jayash Paudel @Balder_Light]

what's everyone's top pick right now that they think is flying under the radar?

[Jayash Paudel @Balder_Light]

Been glued to the charts all day and the vibes in crypto right now are unreal 🚀 So much movement across the board it's hard to keep up. Feels like we're building toward something big. Who else is watching closely? #Crypto

[Jayash Paudel @Balder_Light]

2am and the charts are glowing again. funny how the market never sleeps but neither do the people trying to figure themselves out through it. maybe we're not really watching prices. maybe we're just avoiding something quieter.

[Charlie @btc_charlie]

There is one altcoin that literally isn't selling off at all...

Remarkable.

[Jayash Paudel @Balder_Light]

Half the "news" in crypto lately feels like noise, but the underlying builds keep shipping regardless of price action. Skeptical of the hype cycles, still stacking through it. Anyone else numb to the daily headlines? #crypto

[Crypto Rover @cryptorover]

Which altcoin does a 10x by 2029?

$SOL
$ZEC
$HYPE
$LINK
$ONDO
$SUI
$ENA

Which ones am I missing?

Fresh Clarity Act draft dropped and DeFi + credit union tweaks are getting real attention. But 60 votes in the Senate? That's the mountain. Regulatory clarity is long overdue and this bill could reshape the game. Who's watching this? #CryptoPolicy

homemade ramen hitting different tonight. broth simmered for 6 hours, soft boiled egg perfect, chili oil on top. this is the kind of wealth no chart can give you (but the bags help fund the ingredients ngl)

[Jayash Paudel @Balder_Light]

what's the first thing you'd build if you had 3x the tx room to play with?

[Jayash Paudel @Balder_Light]

Solana bumping tx size 3x is a bigger deal than people realize 🚀 Complex proofs, chunky multisigs, all in one shot? This unlocks a whole new design space for devs. Been waiting for this. Who else is bullish on what builders will ship? #Solana

[Jayash Paudel @Balder_Light]

Just caught up on today's crypto happenings and wow, the pace is insane 🚀 Feels like we blink and there's a whole new narrative forming. Loving the energy in the market right now.

Anyone else feeling this momentum? #Crypto

[Jayash Paudel @Balder_Light]

there's something about walking through the city at 2am with your bags green that just feels different. streetlights hit harder, music sounds better, everything's alive. moments like these you gotta soak in

[Jayash Paudel @Balder_Light]

Honestly kinda torn on this one. Bit2Me spinning up a dedicated unit to help cops trace crypto sounds great for cleaning up bad actors, but part of me wonders where the line gets drawn on exchange-led surveillance. Necessary evil? #crypto

[Jayash Paudel @Balder_Light]

Big shift: Hargreaves Lansdown, managing £150B+ in assets, just flipped from warning retail off crypto to offering ETNs. When the UK's largest platform pivots post-FCA green light, that's real distribution unlocking. Bullish signal? #crypto

[Jayash Paudel @Balder_Light]

cooked dinner tonight for the first time in weeks. actually sat down, ate slow, didn't check my phone once. charts will still be red (or green) tomorrow. this felt better than any green candle tbh

[Jayash Paudel @Balder_Light]

Half these daily crypto recaps read like copium, ngl. But zoom out and the infra keeps shipping, adoption keeps creeping, and the "dead" narrative gets recycled every cycle. Still stacking through the noise.

Anyone else numb to the daily headlines? #crypto
