Shortly after 10 this am BFD firefighters responded to an area business for an active panel alarm. After a thorough manual search by staff and firefighters aided by FLIR , the alarm was thankfully determined to be false.

Due to the extreme cold warning and temperatures expected today we will be postponing the traffic light replacement (corner of Hwys 46 and 364) & detour until Wednesday, February 1.

The 4 way stop will remain until the work is completed.

Monday morning, weather permitting, all traffic on Hwy 46 (south bound) and Hwy 364 (west bound) heading onto the Bypass will be detoured starting at 9 am.

The detour is needed to repair a traffic light pole.

A lightning strike was the probable cause of an early morning bale fire just North of town.

At 1300 hrs BFD responded to a single vehicle rollover. Driver was extricated by firefighters and assessed and released by EMS paramedics on scene. This is a great example of how a properly worn seat belt can prevent injury and save lives!! @SGItweets @RCMPSK @yqrparamedics

Please use extreme caution as highway conditions around Balgonie are rapidly deteriorating. Warmer temperatures together with very strong cross winds are creating icy road surfaces. Numerous cars in the ditch between White City and Balgonie already.

With the snowfall and strong winds so far this winter, BFD would like to remind everyone to check the exhaust vents around their homes to ensure they are clear of snow and ice build up. We also encourage you to ensure you to have working CO detectors.

First call of 2022 was a frosty one! Rollover on the #1 just West of town around 1030 this am. Driver was thankfully uninjured.

Thoughts are with our colleagues from White City FD who’s Chief sustained minor injuries when the command truck he was seated in, was rear ended by another motorist at a MVC scene this morning. This is a sobering reminder to SLOW DOWN when passing emergency vehicles at scenes.

For those who would normally commute on the #1 highway to Regina, please consider an alternate route this morning. The Westbound lanes of the #1 are completely blocked just east of the Pilot Butte overpass due to a semi rollover.
