FIFA Launches Groundbreaking Jurisprudence Database: A Win for Football Agents, Lawyers, and Stakeholders.✨🏆⚽️
For years, accessing past CAS and Swiss Federal Tribunal decisions in football disputes was stressful and time consuming. But, yesterday, FIFA took a historic step toward transparency by launching a jurisprudence database that opens direct access to football’s legal precedents.
The launch is a landmark initiative providing the agents, legal practitioners and stakeholders with access to football-related legal decisions. Now, for the first time, agents, lawyers, and stakeholders can seamlessly access CAS and Swiss Federal Tribunal decisions through a user-friendly platform database. The database comes with powerful filters, allowing users to search by procedure, year, topic, subtopic, language, outcome, arbitrators, and the regulations applied.
🚨KEY REFORMS AND PROVISIONS ⤵️:
⚖️ Direct Access to Key Decisions: For the first time, the football community can openly explore and analyse decisions of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and the Swiss Federal Tribunal (SFT).
🗂️ Cases from 2002 to Present: The database spans over two decades of CAS and Swiss Federal Tribunal (SFT) rulings.
Advanced Search Tools: Users can filter results by procedure, year, topic, subtopic, language, outcome, arbitrators, and the regulations applied.
🌍 Broad Engagement: It breaks the barrier of exclusivity by ensuring that football’s legal precedents are available to all lawyers, agents, academics, clubs, federations, and other stakeholders.
As FIFA’s Chief Legal & Compliance Officer, Emilio García Silvero, noted:
“This project reflects FIFA’s ongoing commitment to transparency, legal education and the advancement of football governance. By opening access to football’s most relevant case law, we are equipping legal practitioners and stakeholders with the tools they need to understand precedents, strengthen arguments and contribute to the fair and consistent application of football regulations worldwide.”
WHY IT MATTERS. 🤷♂️
1️⃣—For Football Agents:
▪️Gain direct familiarity with key legal decisions in football law.
▪️Empower agents to negotiate contracts and dispute resolutions with hard evidence and not just with speculation or gesture.
▪️By negotiating from the place of knowledge, it helps agents to secure better opportunities for their clients.
2️⃣—For Lawyers and Legal Practitioners:
🔹️Drastically reduces the time and cost associated with legal research and case preparation.
🔹️Promote and encourage strong legal arguments anchored on precedent.
🔹️Having undiluted access to CAS precedents increases predictability and stability in the legal system.
🔹️Ensure advice to clients is consistent with established rulings and likely outcomes.
🔹️Promote equal access to legal precedents.
3️⃣—For stakeholders:
🔸️Align governance and policies with actual jurisprudence.
🔸️Identify legal trends to proactively manage risks.
🔸️Strengthen accountability and transparency in decision-making.
As one legal expert was quick to note, "This is a monumental step for football law. It shifts the practice from one based on anecdote and connections to one grounded in openness and precedent.”
With this launch, FIFA is positioning itself at the forefront of transparency in sports law, empowering the football and legal communities with open access to decisions that continue to shape the governance of the game. The initiative reinforces FIFA’s broader mission to promote knowledge-sharing and legal certainty, ensuring that the rules of football are not only written but also consistently applied with clarity, fairness and accountability.
