Yesterday, we were in Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency for our Town Hall Meeting, where we met with traditional rulers, religious leaders, political leaders, community leaders, government officials and other stakeholders to listen to their concerns, give an account of our stewardship and reaffirm our commitment to the development of our people.

For us, governance is not about making promises from a distance. It is about listening to the people, identifying their needs and taking deliberate action to address them.

Across Makurdi and Guma, our administration has embarked on a wide range of interventions covering roads, urban renewal, drainage control, education, healthcare, water supply, agriculture, industrialisation, job creation and public infrastructure.

ROADS, URBAN RENEWAL AND TRANSPORTATION

• Reconstruction of the 20km Wurukum–Air Force Base–Renewed Hope Estate dual carriageway.

• Construction of the High-Level Underpass/Interchange.

• Dualisation of Senator Oluremi Tinubu Road and its connecting spurs.

• Reconstruction of the Jonah Jang Ring Road to connect with the High-Level Underpass.

• Additional works on several roads across Makurdi, including Abu King Shuluwa Road and associated drainage channels.

• Construction and rehabilitation of major urban roads under our broader Makurdi Urban Renewal Programme.

• Facilitation of the Wurukum Flyover by the Federal Government, with the Benue State Government taking responsibility for the full payment of compensation and Right of Way.

• Massive drainage-control and flood-mitigation interventions, including the desilting of urban drains and construction of drainage channels at Idye Basin, Judges’ Quarters, Yogbo Road, Akosu Bija and other flood-prone areas.

• Purchase of 100 buses for Benue Links Transport Company to ease transportation costs.

WATER AND ENVIRONMENT

• Provision of numerous motorised and solar-powered boreholes across Makurdi and Guma.

• Water interventions at IDP camps, schools, healthcare facilities and communities.

• Construction of a 230,000-litre-per-day waterworks at BSUTH.

• Establishment of the BSUTH Sterile and Distilled Water Production Unit.

• Environmental restoration, reforestation and afforestation.

• Development of Tenera plantations at Ujam and Tse-Yogbo.

• Installation of solar streetlights at strategic locations, including IDP camps and communities.

HEALTHCARE

In Guma, we are revitalising:

• CHC Ukpiam
• CHC Yogbo
• CHC Udei
• PHC Abinsi
• FSPC Umenger

In Makurdi, we are revitalising PHC Adeke, PHC Adaka and the Family Support Programme Centre at Central South Mission.

At Benue State University Teaching Hospital, our interventions include:

• Repair and purchase of CT Scan and dialysis machines and establishment of a new dialysis unit.

• Restoration of endoscopy services.

• Procurement of modern X-ray and laboratory equipment.

• Establishment of a Molecular Laboratory.

• Introduction of advanced specialised clinical services.

• Establishment of a Tropical Medicine and Infectious Disease Control Centre.

• Ongoing construction of an Ultra-Modern Cancer Centre.

• Establishment of an IVF Theatre and staff training.

• Construction of a VIP Smart Clinic.

• Installation of major solar power systems.

• Renovation of the Accident and Emergency Ward, GOPD, psychiatric department, isolation unit and other facilities.

• Upgrading of the mortuary and other critical infrastructure.

• Establishment of the Institute of Health and Technology.

• Commencement of full clinical activities at the Mohammedu Buhari Mother and Child Hospital…

Yesterday, we took our statewide Town Hall Meetings to the Gwer Federal Constituency, engaging traditional rulers, religious leaders, political leaders, government officials and other stakeholders from across the constituency.

The engagement provided an opportunity to listen directly to our people, present an account of our stewardship and discuss the development priorities of Gwer and Benue State.

A major highlight was the Taraku Mills in Gwer East, which has been revived and is currently undergoing test-running. I assured the people that the mill will soon commence full operations. I also commended the people for protecting the machines and equipment from vandalism.

The revival of Taraku Mills, alongside other agro-allied companies being revitalised by our administration, will create a sustainable market for farm produce, strengthen our agricultural value chain and ensure that Benue farmers are no longer forced to sell their produce at unprofitable prices.

Across Gwer East and Gwer West, our administration is also delivering interventions in roads, rural infrastructure, security, education, healthcare and water supply, including:

🔹 The 43.5km Obagaji–Okokolo–Agagbe Road, connecting Agatu and Gwer West.

🔹 Solar-powered boreholes across communities, schools and public institutions in Gwer East, including Tse Ukpur, Mbaisase Ashide N/P School, Atakpa, Shase 1, Nyankyo, Mbahimin Primary School, On-Mba-Alom, Mbade Akor, Mbanyanikyo, Mbayiade, Gwer-East LGA Secretariat, Ikyobaa and Tse Yogbo.

🔹 Reconstruction and renovation of schools, including LGEA Primary School Ayar, NKST Primary School Kandeor, RCM Primary School Mishi, LGEA Primary School Nagi, NKST Primary School Atukpu, RCM Primary School Achu, RCM Primary School Agagbe and NKST Primary School Naka, with the provision of furniture and other essential facilities.

🔹 At NKST Primary School Naka, interventions include the rehabilitation of ECCDE facilities, playroom, classrooms and toilets, as well as a solar-powered borehole and furniture.

🔹 Revitalisation of healthcare facilities, including PHC Adetsav, PHC Ukyari, PHC Asina, PHC Taraku and PHC Tse-Biaga in Gwer East.

🔹 In Gwer West, we are revitalising PHC Nyamshi, Comprehensive Health Centre Naka, PHC Kwashon and PHC Onovmbaondo.

These interventions complement our broader investments in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and rural development across the state.

On roads, I assured our people that the Makurdi–Naka Road and other priority roads, including concerns raised by communities in Gwer, would receive the attention they deserve.

In education, following the recruitment of 9,700 primary school teachers, arrangements are underway to recruit additional teachers for both primary and secondary schools to strengthen our education system and improve learning outcomes.

On security, I reiterated that no part of Benue will be given to anybody for ranching. Our land belongs to our people and must remain available for farming and other legitimate uses. We will continue the fight against insecurity until peace is fully restored.

I also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the establishment of the Nigerian Army 5 Division in Benue, with its headquarters in Makurdi and deployments across strategic locations in the state.

We are building a new Benue where agriculture thrives, industries operate, schools function, healthcare is accessible, communities are connected and our people can live and work in peace.

I thank the great people of Gwer-East, and Gwer-West, for their continued support for our administration and for the Renewed Hope Agenda of Mr. President.

We will continue to listen, we will continue to work, and we will continue to deliver.
