What does speaking out really mean?
It has become its own kind of performance. A caption here, a repost there, a heated exchange in the comment section that everyone forgets by the next morning. Noise dressed up as resistance.
Real speaking up is inconvenient. It costs something. It means holding the conversation past the trend cycle, past the outrage, past the moment when everyone else has moved on. It means refusing to normalise what is happening just because it has been happening for so long.
With the upcoming poll, the hardest thing in the world is to decide that your voice doesn’t matter, that the system is too broken, the people too corrupt, the whole thing too exhausting to engage with.
This is your sign to speak up in deed.
The small axe doesn’t stop. 🦍

This release marks a new chapter in our band history -our first collaboration with an artist from Italy.
We are so proud to have worked with @theycallmeadriana on this third and final instalment of the Gorilla trilogy. Her cadence, flow and hard hitting lyrics explore the concept of la vera fotta - the raw passion and grit required to endure in a world that often refuses to understand. Universal and uncompromising, her verse is a perfect extension of the Gorilla conversation beyond Lagos and Berlin.
Big shout out to @mayorchux for the sonic flip on the remix.
Gorilla -Mayorchux Version is out now. Link in bio.

Lagos. Cologne. Berlin. And now Verona!
Gorilla has been travelling. Not because it needs a passport, but because the message it tells doesn’t belong to one city.
The third and final chapter lands June 12. Stay tuned!🦍

Every time we demand accountability, they try to shut us down. But let’s be clear: every tool they use to silence us is only going to make our voices louder.
The system was never built in our favor, which is exactly why we have to speak up right now.

@ronkelawal Collaborate with songwriters, build a team of writers and musicians, study as many genres as possible, and continuously challenge yourself creatively. That's the key to expanding your musical vocabulary and building a lasting career.
@ronkelawal The Nigerian Afrobeats ecosystem is focused largely on hype and quick gains. Very few artists are putting in the work when it comes to developing their craft.
Ade Bantu says it plainly; Gorilla is about censorship.
As as artists, music is the only language we have that fully belongs to us. No filter, no intermediary, no permission needed is needed to express our truth.
“No retreat, no surrender, no truce!” 🦍

There’s a moment in every production where the producer stops working and just… listens.
J-JD had that moment with Gorilla — and instead of changing what it was, he added his own fire.

Nigeria's ruling elites have never cared about the masses why would they now care about abducted children and teachers in Oyo? Their fake empathy and empty speeches must be called out. This election season, disrupt every rally. Chant the names of every abducted school child yet

“I was going to address it but now that you’re putting me on the spot, I have ran elections, I am the first woman to be in the Senate three times. I don’t sing my own praise, but I am a silent worker.”
- , Remi Tinubu
As an artist you cannot afford to sit on the fence. You cannot claim neutrality or fear repercussions for speaking up when 2-year-olds are being abducted. Your silence will not protect you because no one is safe in Nigeria.
“Skepta is saying celebrities should speak, did he want Nigeria government to pick us? They will arrest us if we speak up. We only need help. Nigerians in diaspora should speak up cause Nigerian government can’t arrest them. I’m only concerned about money.”
— Portable.
Jaydee Pee walks you through it like it’s simple. It isn’t.
Ten Times Backwards has that thing that makes you feel it before you understand it — and this is where that thing lives. Watch how the notes architecture gets built in real time, in his own words, on his own keys. 🎹
They thought gagging us was enough.
Then arresting us.
Then the bullying.
None of it will work this time.
Because you cannot silence something that was never asking for permission to speak in the first place.
No retreat. No surrender. No truce

There is something every Nigerian knows that cannot be fully translated.
It is the thing you feel when someone speaks your truth out loud without performance or packaging.
“Gorilla” is that thing.
Gorilla is a reminder that your voice was never the problem. The system is
Today is Africa Day.
Across this continent people are still fighting to be heard, demanding accountability from those in power, still refusing to be silenced.
Gorilla is for all of them.
