AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi moves Supreme Court seeking review of its judgment upholding SIR, citing fresh disclosures of alleged irregularities in the Election Commission’s decision-making.

Key grounds:

• Two Election Commissioners reportedly recorded objections on at least 14 occasions over 10 months to decisions taken without their approval.

• Objections concerned changes to statutory Form 6, voter registration/deletion, appeals against restoration of voters’ names and centralisation of electoral roll databases.

• A Reporters’ Collective investigation found 85,854 of 87,127 Form 7 deletion requests in UP allegedly auto-generated without stating grounds for deletion.

• In Goa, 97 electors were reportedly excluded despite Electoral Registration Officers finding them eligible for inclusion, as the software allegedly lacked a facility to restore their names.

• The plea alleges violations of Section 18 of the 2023 Act on appointment of ECs and questions whether the statutory safeguards relied upon by the Court were effective in practice.

Owaisi seeks review and recall of the May 27, 2026 judgment and setting aside of the ECI orders implementing the SIR.
