Fathers are likely spending more time with their children than any time in the past 100+ years, and more on childcare than any point in history.
So it’s interesting to hear so many regrets in the last few generations about too much time away from families—something I’m not aware of a historical analog for.
Over this same period, our society has systematically eliminated the idea of legacy from most areas of life, from attacks on “nepotism” in business world to legacy admissions at colleges to clubs and fraternal societies. In many ways, time with your immediate family is the only time you’re now doing something that directly ties to a legacy.
So perhaps many feelings of regret are driven by a loss of sense of investment in meaningful legacy. Since people now associate that exclusively with time with immediate family, they express a wish they’d spent more time with family, without even recognizing many other activities that historically would have likewise helped satisfy this yearning.
You can get robbed on the playground by a feral 9-year-old wearing an ankle monitor and then be confronted by a migrant sex offender for running the kid off and STILL be the one accused of "disorderly conduct" because you didn't take it lying down
Trying to find a public domain essay from a hundred years ago and it's literally only available behind academic paywalls. I think the death of the university system might actually lead to an intellectual renaissance in America.
@LauraLoomer I don't know dude, we've been blessing Israel pretty hard and we seem cursed as fuck.
When are these blessings supposed to kick in? I've probably blessed Israel with several thousand dollars of my tax money and my hometown is looking roughly as cursed as your face
In 2008, it was Millennials' fault that Boomers destroyed the country.
In 2026, it's Zoomers' fault that Boomers destroyed the country.
In 2035, the last Boomer will curse his Gen Alpha grandkids with his dying breath and blame them, too.
@BronyRepublican I deadlifted 400 pounds my senior year of high school weighing 160 then I got sick and quit lifting and haven’t lost much muscle I think I’d get back to that point quickly though
Twas the night before Juneteenth,
When all through the hood
Not a negro was stirring
Not even Yakoob
The chickens were washed
By the kitchen with care,
In hopes that George Floyd
Soon would breathe air
The UK needs a solution more radical and society-altering than the Bolshevik takeover or the Nuremberg trials: one that will serve as the foundation of a new state for the next millennium and root itself so firmly in the national psyche that such a betrayal can never occur again.
