WotLK timewalking is back this week, and with it, the fastest path to the Chef's Hat toy for faster cooking speed
Quick little summary of what to do if you have <2500 Timewarped badges to spend instead of waiting until March 2027 or doing up to 50 days of Dalaran dailies😃
You should not be sitting in the range of 20 to 40 FPS when a boss is pulled in a raid if you already spent money on a x3d CPU. Blizzards aura container system in patch 12.1 took a lot of compute off Addons and improved performance in general compared to previous seasons.
I provide free resources and (hopefully) easy to follow guides on my GitHub profile for everyone interested. This includes an optimized Windows install and setup from scratch, safe-to-copy base settings for NVIDIA as well as ingame graphics and advanced settings.
My own Addon which offers additional settings, layouts for all roles and optimized profile imports for lots of Addons is free on CurseForge and Wago as well.
Paid services to pseudo-"tweak" your PC for crazy FPS boosts and "zero latency" is scam most of the time. Especially if they want you to download zip files for registry tweaks or tell you to disable Windows Defender.
With all the free resources in mind, it should take less than a day to properly setup for a smooth experience. Even if you have zero to minimal knowledge.
You can check the VODs on my Twitch profile if you want season 2 examples, proof or just compare with your own performance. It's linked in my X bio, trying to avoid URLs in here for better visibility of the post.
Our Discord server is always up for a tech support chat if you need assistance. Preferably general Windows questions or ElvUI related questions because that's what we use!
I am a senior vice president at a $68.7 billion gaming company.
Activision-Blizzard.
We have a 30-year-old franchise.
Warcraft.
Millions of players. A subscription model that prints $15 a month per user. A cash shop on top of the subscription. Paid expansions on top of the cash shop.
Our former creative director just told the press he wishes we hadn't called it "Warcraft."
He said the name sounds intimidating.
He helped create the name.
We ran focus groups. The focus groups said the brand needed to be "more approachable." We asked the focus groups if they played the game. They did not. We took their advice anyway.
Our VP told an interviewer we want players to experience "weddings, raids, and new adventures." She listed weddings first. Before raids. In a game called Warcraft. Nobody in the room flinched.
She also said "No one thinks the same about Warhammer."
She compared our franchise unfavorably to a competitor. On the record. As a defense of the franchise.
The forums are on fire. Twenty-year veterans are writing goodbye posts. One thread is titled "Think I'm done with WoW." Another calls our pre-patch a "player purge."
We called our GDKP raiders "delusional."
We timed a cash shop bundle to launch during the Trading Post anniversary -- the one event where players earn free cosmetics. We offered 200 discounted items but kept the monthly currency cap at 1,000. The math doesn't work unless you open your wallet.
The community noticed. We described their concerns as "feedback we're monitoring."
We are always monitoring. We have never once changed course because of monitoring.
The players say we're "Disneyfying" the game. Turning gritty into cute. War into weddings. Orcs into mascots.
They're not wrong.
The data says approachable properties have wider TAM. Total addressable market. That's the metric now. Not "subscribers who love the game." Not "community that built this franchise." TAM.
TAM doesn't post on forums. TAM doesn't write goodbye letters. TAM doesn't have 20 years of muscle memory and lore knowledge and raid nights that turned into real friendships.
TAM is a number in a slide deck that makes a board feel comfortable.
We added player housing. Players have asked for it since 2004. We launched it in 2026. Twenty-two years. We described this as "listening to our community."
We are very good at listening. Eventually. When the feature aligns with a monetization roadmap.
Here is what I know and cannot say in a meeting:
The name was never the problem. The name built this. The name survived server crashes and subscription drops and an activision merger and a harassment scandal and a $68.7 billion acquisition.
The name is "Warcraft" and for 30 years nobody was confused about what it meant.
The problem is not that new players find the name intimidating.
The problem is that old players are starting to find us unrecognizable.
And we don't have a focus group for that.
If your Damage Meter main or second window is stuck in a corner and you can't seem to move it or fix it on a specific character.
Go to the following path:
"World of Warcraft\_retail_\WTF\Account\YOUR_ACCOUNT_NAME\SERVER\YOUR_CHARACTER"
And delete the Blizzard_DamageMeter.lua and Blizzard_DamageMeter.lua.bak while the game is closed, and when you log back in everything should be fixed for that character.
Mythic+ was always supposed to be a different form of content from raiding. For healers especially it’s been a great way to showcase skillsets other than raw hps min maxing. This is where things like weaving in impactful damage, interrupting mobs, using CC/utility, coordinating/tracking raid cds and defensives, watching cast target on frames for preemptive game saving plays, and so much more came into play.
In Midnight, all of those things will be gone or gutted. Healer damage appears to still be ~1/10th of a dps at absolute best, rendering it meaningless. Interrupts are being taken away, CC/utility is being gutted, targeted spell tracking on frames is being removed, and omniCD style tracking is being removed with no suitable replacement in sight… All of our agency to help our team succeed is being stripped down to just raw healing, and I’m left to wonder, what’s left? All that’s left for M+ healers is now just raw hps buttons, turning it into just a smaller group version of raid where we just stare at health bars the whole time and only worry about hps.
Mythic+ was never meant to be played the same as raid, it’s supposed to be another, separate end game pillar that allows players to showcase different skillsets and playstyles. Midnight is set to strip away 90% healer’s skill expression and agency over group survivability outside of just straight hps buttons. I really hope blizzard reconsiders some of these changes
Midnight alpha UI and accessibility - my two cents
A lot of information scraps floating around about what features we're going to lose in 12.0, here is my own little less-technical overview.
This is mostly meant for raiding and running keystones at any level, but most of it applies to PvP as well.
They are not just getting rid of “mechanic-solving WAs and AddOns” - there is more to it.
Very important note upfront
Blizzard’s UI team has already listened to some feedback and continues to do so.
Please keep in mind that everything mentioned here is my personal state of knowledge and might miss some small details.
This reflects the first two weeks of alpha as well as the upcoming two weeks and is probably subject to change.
Do you need the below mentioned to play the game? The answer is probably no. It's just what me and others got used to and love. I can sit there for hours customizing the UI I'm looking at whenever I play the game and it does not solve any boss mechanics for me.
Solving encounter mechanics with WA and AddOns
The majority of the player base agrees that “banning” access to the combat log and certain kinds of APIs, as well as AddOn communication during encounters, and pressing macros to work around a bad implementation of Private Auras, is perfectly fine and makes sense.
Now this is where the bad news start
What’s possible in terms of UI customization and accessibility will drastically change in 12.0, and tons of minor QoL things we got used to over the last decade will no longer be possible.
WeakAuras and (more specifically) “Class HUDs” / “Class Auras”
The WA team already announced there won't be a WA AddOn for Midnight due to this full lockdown of the most important APIs.
We are pretty much forced to use Blizzard’s (currently very bad) implementation of the new Cooldown Manager to create our own little “Class HUD,” which most people have in the center of the screen.
AddOns won't be allowed to do very basic stuff such as displaying an icon with a duration based on a spell name or ID.
Access to buffs, debuffs, remaining cooldown, etc. is fully blocked - not just for other party or raid members.
There won't be features such as, for example, “change the color of my moonkin astral power bar while in eclipse.”
You can't even create small little boxes for combo points, soul shards, or any other similar class resources.
Access to the “unit power” is very limited, so all you can do is display a full bar with text - no “ticks” or “separate containers.”
Blocklists and Allowlists
Also known as "Blacklists" and "Whitelists".
Not possible - you will see the buffs and debuffs that Blizzard decides to display. No filtering, no sorting.
This is for all frames: Minimap, Nameplates, Unit frames.
Action bars
A lot of people prefer to use their Bartender or any other custom AddOn action bars as some kind of “Class WA” instead,
but this won't be possible either. AddOn action bars won't have access to the cooldown or even charges/stacks of spells while in combat (even open-world combat when questing or hitting a training dummy).
This means we're more or less forced to use default action bars unless you're fine with using pretty dead spell icons without any useful information while in combat.
Nameplates
People love to customize their nameplates. Most of it will no longer be possible.
Mods and scripts are dead, but this should be pretty obvious with the blocking of mechanic solving code.
Access to names, GUIDs, and IDs will be fully blocked while in an instance server, which means AddOns are not allowed to display, for example, just the last part of the name or shorten it in any form. If the dungeon trash mob is called Lieutenant of the Hateforged Constructs, then so be it - all you get is the full name. No shortening. No renaming.
Coloring will be gone for the same reason. It won't be possible to change the color for caster mobs or priority targets.
Same for coloring or glowing targets in execute range. There will be new APIs for percentage health, but the return is secret, which means the % can be displayed, but no code logic like changing color or applying a glow can be used.
Unitframes
You might have seen some early previews of “working” AddOn versions Player/Target/Party/Raid frames already, but don't get excited, really.
AddOn frames can't even compete with Blizzard’s frames currently. We can show you a health bar and a power bar, as well as the name and maybe the full or percentage value texts with a couple of formatting options. It won't be possible to set a custom position for your hots, shields, external buffs, etc. They will be in one dynamic container without filtering or sorting.
Coloring the health in green when there is a dispellable poison, blue for dispellable magic, purple for dispellable curse, or anything like that will not be possible either. Color or glow for your atonement targets, prescience targets, etc. is dead as well.
Let's call it “Quality of life”
Requesting your Innervate, Power Infusion, or externals (sac, bark, cocoon, etc.) is not possible. You will have to type in chat or call for it in voice.
Maybe you will be lucky and they're available when you call for it - in combat there is no way to see if other people's abilities are off cooldown.
Compatibility
Trying to use our personal UI in multiple versions of the game will be a really big mess in terms of backend code. Thinking about sharing my stuff between retail and the pandaria progression realms and even classic anniversary with upcoming The Burning Crusade already gives me a big headache.
@BlizzardCS_PT Estou passando por algo que jamais imaginei passar em um jogo, minha conta do world of warcraft foi encerrada de forma abrupta no dia 03/12/2024, nunca me senti tão diminuído e impotente diante de tal situação, peço gentilmente que analisem meu caso: Número do ticket: US102626963
All WeakAuras are officially updated on Wago (and my Website also) for the 10.2 Patch! These include, Class Changes, Tier Sets and a brand new Glow!
Friendly reminder to not update these until the patch is actually launched in your region, otherwise you'll run into some issues!
