Final stop, the farthest eastern point of the US - Quoddy Head Light in the Quoddy Head State Park in Lubec, ME. It looks over the islands of 2 nations. Campobello, The Wolves & Grand Manan in Canada. Sail Rock, which reportedly caused many shipwrecks off the shores, in the US.
Camden, ME-an absolute shock from what we thought was a quick end-of-day stop! The theme of mountains meet the sea with Mt. Beattie in Camden Hills State Park overlooking the Penobscot Bay, Maineβs largest bay at about 1,070 square miles & more than 1,000 islands & rocky ledges.
Well there werenβt any whales on the whale watching expedition but β¦there were Ocean Sun Fish, a Puffin and other marine bird species, lobster and tuna fishermen, beautiful sites and perfect weather conditions!
The Portland Head Light was the first lighthouse completed under the Lighthouse Act of 1898. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow gained his inspiration for his poem βSail Onβ from his visits there.
Found Portland, Maine to be a wonderful town. Buildings were historic and beautiful. The Press Hotel is on the site of the Gannett building which published the Portland Press Herald, the larger newspaper in the state.
A highlight of this trip was visiting the Bush Compound in Kennebunkport. My boss in 1992 β it was an honor to serve the Bush-Quayle campaign as Deputy Director of Opposition Research.

The State Capitol Building of New Hampshire in Concord was built in 1816-19. It is constructed of New Hampshire granite quarried in Concord. The original part was occupied June 2, 1819 and is the nation's oldest State Capitol in which a legislature meets in its original chambers.
After a downpour with swirling winds that broke the heat and 90 minutes to get through security with our closest half a million friends, we celebrated the 4th with the Boston Pops, Chance the Rapper, Lainey Wilson and Anderson Cooper!
Salem, best known for its witch trials, is a quaint, eclectic, friendly city. Guess it might not have been so friendly in the 1600s but that was the Puritans fault!
