In Megaman X2: When you beat the boss rush and go back to the stage select, you can just choose the X Hunter Fortress to go to the final stage. However, you can also pick Central Computer from the 8 Maverick stages and it will also take you to the final stage.

@Juno973 Small little quirk with this game and dying - The game only registers you as dead if you are at 0 HP and get knocked down. There's a brief window where you can mash magic, and your magic will force the game to stand your character up right, cancelling out the death trigger.
