NEW POST! First blog post of the year, a story I had wanted to look into for a while, the workplace death of a labourer in @BarracksBirr#Birr#Offaly

HELP NEEDED! 100 years ago John Gunning, a #WW1 veteran joined the National Army. He died from wounds received in action on 1/3/23
For the centenary of his death, I plan to mark his grave in #Birr#Offaly
If anyone could help contribute with the cost:

A nice cheap find, a 1 penny Birr Garrison Token (bigger than 2 euro coin). Despite looking like its been in the ground, these tokens are fairly hard to find. They would have been used in garrison canteen in @BarracksBirr 6 in total 1/4d, 1/2d, 1p, 3d, 4d and 6 d.
NEW POST! Trying to get back to writing regular blog posts. This was nice to research as my dad grew up quite close to where this letter is addressed to! #WW1#Mayo

Really impressed with the 3D printed model @ca_olin_ was able to create of the 3rd Bttn, Leinster Regiment Boer War memorial in #Crinkill#Birr The scan was part of her excellent work creating a 3D digital model of @BarracksBirr

Rare image of the officers of the 2nd Battalion, Leinster Regiment in Mauritius in 1907. To the keen observer you'll note 4 sets of colours. The battalion received new colours whilst stationed here.
