Guy Bowden appointed as a Fee-Paid Judge of the First Tier Tribunal

Chambers is delighted to announce that the Senior President of Tribunals has appointed Guy Bowden as a Fee-Paid Judge of the First Tier Tribunal, assigned to the Health, Education and Social Care Chamber.

Guy has been authorised to sit in the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal.

His appointment is part-time and he will continue to practise from Red Lion.

I'm listening but can't yet see how an immediate 15% is going to save the criminal bar. With many I know lining up a Plan B, practitioner numbers will continue to fall. The prospect of having to withdraw labour again in the future will be too much for all but the most committed.

@CrimeGirI @DominicRaab @Dines4Dales Having spent the last couple of years doing inquiry-type work I assumed I’d eventually come back to crime. The MoJ’s failure to engage combined with the CBA action will give many the nudge they needed to desert criminal legal aid work.

After reports court staff were instructed to name barristers who do not attend hearings to take part in

@Andy_Cox_ Given that we've had no increase in actual earning for 1/4 century - and the 'offer' doesn't actually amount to the 15% publicised, I think the Government are going to have to think again if they don't want the courts to grind to a halt.

The Criminal Bar are well on the way to securing much better levels of remuneration. Time to thank Raab but politely decline his opening offer. 15% (excluding PPE) is not the 25% minimum which is required to begin to stop the exodus of practitioners.
