@MahanEsfahani@southbankcentre I’d be there but I’ve gone completely deaf, I’m afraid - a viral infection that went ape. Hope it goes well. Certain it will. Barry
So proud to receive the Encomienda of the Order of Isabel la Católica at the Spanish Embassy today, and in the company of Jonathan Ruffer. Spain has been my career and my life, and I am so grateful for the opportunities it has given me. Muchísimas gracias!
Thank you for sharing with us the Spanish National Day. It was an amazing reception to celebrate the old and deep bonds of friendship between Spain and the UK. ¡Muchas gracias! #DíaDeLaFiestaNacional#12Octubre

@MahanEsfahani Not a great deal since 1992. Fernández Armesto (OUP, 1991) is a good read; WD and CR Phillips (CUP) is well informed; but Nicolás Wey Gómez, The Tropics of Empire (MIT, 2008) is lengthy but the best. If you give me your postal address I will send you something (short) of my own.
On Maundy Thursday, here is the end of Thomas Tallis’ Lamentations of Jeremiah, sung @fontevraud.
It was amazing to sing this English music in the Loire Valley, next to the graves of Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, and Richard the Lionheart.
