๐พ New 2026 highs for grain. A ยฃ10 jump this week as drone attacks on Black Sea shipping rattle the markets. Is it a smart selling window, or the start of something bigger?
Back home, quality's looking vintage but yields are patchy across the country ๐

๐พ French winter barley's in and it's down 5-10% on last year.
Wheat results are next, and that's when we'll really see what May's heatwave did to yields. ๐ก๏ธ
Eastern Europe's looking strong though enough to soften any French shortfall?
The big question: does a poor harvest spark a price rally worth selling into? ๐

Closing the gap between grower and brand ๐พ
Last week we brought growers, agronomists, brands and industry leaders together for a day built around one idea: the biggest opportunity in British agriculture sits in the gap between farm and consumer, and that gap is closing fast.
The maths is striking. Gross margin on milling wheat can move from ยฃ9 to ยฃ66 per tonne through stacked gains in nutrition, resilience and precision. Brands are building supply chains around growers who can deliver consistency, traceability and carbon accountability. And climate volatility is a present risk, not a future one.
We already have the capability. What's needed now is alignment.

The harvest wait is on. ๐พ
Fuel prices back to pre-war levels (finally), Russia threatening to flood the wheat market, and spring malting barley set for a real premium, don't sell it as feed just yet.

Markets have settled as the US-Iran ceasefire was largely priced in and with harvest approaching, we could be entering a quieter period for price volatility.
Closer to home, a new heatwave is on the way โ hats on.
Our final June events are at Chalton this week, with variety trials on Tuesday & Wednesday and the From Growers to Brands Conference on Thursday. Wheat variety choice and CBAM fertiliser taxation are both firmly on the agenda.

Not all โprotein boostsโ are equal.
Urea ear wash can leave nitrogen sitting in the earโฆ
But that doesnโt mean real grain protein.
Harbest supports the plant to produce true, usable protein.
