Do you have a good story to share about a specific place in Barnstaple?

From the 5th - 14th September, we'll be collecting stories in our Community Gallery, as part of the Barnstaple Heritage Trail.

Maybe you have a tale to tell about shopping The Pannier Market (pictured. Image from our collection), an evening spent at the Golden Lion Tap or the Three Tuns, or from a time spent working at Brannam Pottery.

Please wear old clothes. as printing can be a little bit messy!

There'll be two drop in sessions running throughout the day, from 10am - 1pm and 2pm - 4pm, so pop along and have fun printing with Liz.

Today (Wednesday 21st August) we have Liz Wilde with us for a wonderful print making session for this week's Curious Creators workshop.

Take inky inspiration from Turner’s tour engravings and use different printmaking techniques with watercolour to make landscapes.

It's nearly time to announce the theme for the Documentary Photography Open 2025.

This week we're welcoming Stemgineering with Nick, who'll be building LEGO bridges (continuing with the theme of Barnstaple Bridge from our Turner exhibition) to develop your creative engineering skills.

If you've been inspired by our Turner in Barnstaple exhibition and painted your own version of Barnstaple Bridge, don't forget to drop it off at the museum, so that we can add it to the exhibition.

On Thursday 29th August, we'll be holding our first ever Museum Late event.

Over the summer there's also a Turner Trail for children to take part in, helping to find Turner's lost art equipment around the museum, so there's plenty to keep the young ones entertained.

Come and join us making Roman costumes to take part in the Barnstaple Carnival.

The Carnival takes place in September and the museum will be running craft workshops to make Roman costumes ready to parade as part of the event, using sustainable and recycled materials.

The workshops will run on Saturdays throughout August and they are open to everyone. We will be making helmets, shields and other Roman items to put together a group for the procession.

If you want to be part of the parade and recreate ancient Rome come and join in.
