Russia is now trapped in a three‑way collision:

1. Militarily: The war is stuck. The chance of controlling Ukraine is zero. There is no realistic path to victory.
2. Economically: More than two‑thirds of Russia’s liquid sovereign funds are gone. The Kremlin spends 40% of the federal budget on the war. Interest rates sit around 15%, inflation above 5%. This is not sustainable.
3. Strategically: Leaving Ukraine would mean admitting a historic Russian failure. That’s the only reason the war continues: imperial pride outweighs rational strategy.

Europe must therefore maintain pressure until Russia either:
accepts real security guarantees for Ukraine, or
chooses to wreck its own economy rather than admit defeat.
