Out today on #BatAppreciationDay!🦇
The Vulnerable Ryukyu #FlyingFox is threatened by habitat degradation, predation by dogs & cats, culling & entanglement in orchard nets. They are often perceived as pests that damage crops such as tankan oranges (🧵1/3) https://t.co/soMAGio3bK
Their findings indicate that the large-billed crow causes more crop damage, that bat-farmer conflicts could seriously threaten the Ryukyu #FlyingFox & that more bat-friendly crop protections could aid #conservation efforts🦇

In celebration of @BatAppreciation Day, discover BAT'S MOONLIGHT FEAST by @CinnamonCyborg with art by @Carlydraws, the story of a tube-lipped nectar bat and her nocturnal search for the rare flower whose nectar sustains her. Published by the Muddy Boots imprint of @GlobePequot.
Happy #BatAppreciationDay 🦇🖤
We ventured out this eve to detect bats and only found a Noctule bat.
Watch this space for future 🦇walks in collab with the local Bat Society 🖤

Genuinely want to RT everyone celebrating #batappreciationday today. But last time, it landed me in Twitter jail. So need to go slower this time. Thank you everyone!
Bats silently support economies around the world. Eating insect pests of both agriculture & forestry, pollinating food plants (like those used in tequila production!) & dispersing seeds in tropical systems. Thank bats AROUND THE WORLD for the work they do. #BatAppreciationDay
Silver-haired Bats are amazing! With their beautiful silver high-lights & little doggy faces, we are just lucky to share the planet with them! Bonus is that they also eat tons of moths which helps out both agriculture & forestry! #ThanksBats! #BatAppreciationDay#BatsNeedFriends
We love to count bats! There is a bit of thrill watching bats drop & fly as they leave their bat house just after sunset. Count bats & submit data to our citizen science project! This info will be vital to monitor bat populations across Alberta. #BatAppreciationDay#AlbertaBats

🦇🖤🦇🖤 #BatAppreciationDay is a week away! Join us for a live stream of the bat stream as TENS OF MILLION OF BATS bat-nado their way into the twilight sky.
BATS ARE BEAUTIFUL! Because they hide away & fly in the dark, we don't see them enough. But many species are stunningly beautiful. Bats are amazingly diverse. 1,462 species on the planet. #AppreciateBats#BatAppreciationDay#Bats
Two groups I'm struggling to find and photograph for 365Species: freshwater fish, and microbats.
20% of our mammal kin are bats. Flying foxes are the objective best, but we need some more.
Share bat pics if you have them!
