@DuongH40120 Can't agree that Toei did a better job characterizing anyone, least of all Goku. Let's agree to disagree. Piccolo as Pan's caretaker is straight from Toriyama. Like Goku, SH showed Gohan as an absentminded father who is consumed by his interests but steps up when it matters most.
@DuongH40120 As an adult in the original, Goku's growth and maturity are emphasized to show how far he's come, and that progress is strongly felt. But I like these bits in Super that show that he's still a weirdo country bumpkin when the stakes are low.
@DuongH40120 I like Super, but I agree. Largely a consequence of being a midquel, where characters are only allowed to change so much, made worse by the fact that Goku is a global icon with a solidified character. Sometimes new shades are well received (call me Kakarot), and sometimes not...
@DuongH40120 I don't agree with the poor writing bit, but yeah, Toriyama probably emphasized more of the odd (never kissing) and toxic (forgets his granddaughter) traits in Super to compensate for Goku's whitewashed perception.
